Hi Everyone-

My husband & I recently submitted an application for Canadian permanent residency (for him). He is from Brazil, and has returned to wait out the remainder of the application process (which was advised by our immigration consultant).

I was approved in September 2009 as the sponsor, and the office in Sao Paulo received his application the following month, in October. Does anyone else have a similar time-line?

I know that each application is different, but just hoping to hear some positive feedback on the current wait-times for outside Canada applications. May will be 7 months of waiting, and it is so hard!!

Feedback appreciated,

MVK

That makes me feel pretty optimistic..we are just waiting for one more police certificate and then filing it all. Based on these timelines I might actually have my husband with me for Christmas...that would be so great. :)

Hi MVK,

I know some applicants that are still waiting and one that have landed already, their sponsorship applications were received in São Paulo in October as well. It should be done pretty soon I believe.

Have you or your husband contacted the Consulate yet?

When my application was received in the Consulate in São Paulo, they sent me an AOR (Acknowledgment of Receipt) letter and in this letter it was written the following (it is standard and hasn't been modified in many years, unless they changed it recently):

Processing Time

Applications for permanent residence in Canada in the immigrant category in which you have applied require on average 6 months to process at this office. If you have not received any instructions from this office by **10/06/2009**, you may wish to write to this office and ask for an update.

If a personal interview is required in your case, you will be notified of the appointment several weeks prior to the date of the interview, and you will be provided with further instructions at that time. If you have not received notification of your interview appointment or any instructions for medical examinations by **10/09/2009**, you may again wish to write us and request an update. (...)
The dates between "**" will change according to when each application was received at the Consulate.

If you or your husband didn't contact them at all, try e-mailing them to ask for an update: "Visa and Immigration: spalo-immigration@international.gc.ca ". PM me if there is any problem with this e-mail address and you need another one, but this one should be enough. The lady Immigration Officer who I used to talk to has left the Consulate in December, but there are other people that can provide you answers.

Thank you everyone for the great feedback! I'm happy to hear that many are finding the process to be fast, although we are sadly moving into our 7th month, and I am starting to fear ours will not be as quick as we had hoped.

Saying a prayer for everyone to be with their loved one's soon!

Keep me posted :)

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are now looking into obtaining a visitors visa for him to return to Canada while his PR application processes in Sao Paulo. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is is very difficult to get one of these (i.e. will the Government look favorably on us as we are married and just want to be together, or will they deny because he has ties in Canada?).

I know the greatest risk is that he could get called for an interview and will have to return on short notice to Brazil. Any advice or guidance?

Thanks!

MVK

Hi MVK he will not get a visitors visa from Sao Paulo, especially when it is in process, like i said on this website before i was told by Sao Paulo the only way they would even consider giving a visitors visa to anyone in process is if you were leaving a child also in process behind.
They said if he was leaving a child behind that was with a mother/father from a previous relationship does not qualifiy. And having a return ticket means nothing.I also am sponsoring through Sao Paulo.

MVK is your app pretty straight forward or was there some stuff that was questionable.Just wondering as they say in their website 80% of processes are done in the first 6 months.

Iarblue,

I appreciate your feedback - I knew it would be challenging to get a visitor visa, but was told it was not impossible. Still looking to see if anyone out there has had any success with this?? Or if it's a pointless endeavor. Anyone???

As for processing times - here is what the websites list:

Can't post links, but on the chart for application processing times it says: 80% of outland applications in Sao Paulo are resolved in 9 months (other stats: 30% in 5 months, 50% in 6 months, and 70% in 8 months).. keep in mind these numbers are only for outland apps in SP!

Additionally on the Canadian Consulate in Sao Paulo website they state, "Family class: After we receive a complete application, 80% of cases are finalized in ten months. Parents and grandparents cases may take additional time to be processed."

I'm hoping ours will be done any day now, and given the above information, I've been told this wait time is normal and to be expected. Anything faster is a gift!!
