Hi

I was wondering if is it possible to get married with a PR on a travel visa and then going back to your home country and then applying to sponsorship from outside? Anyone have experience with marriage in quebec, is it necessary to have pre marriage waiting time? i will be glad if someone knows anything about that.

sorry to occupy here with my non-urgent curious questions.

Thanks.

I got married to my wife while visiting Nova Scotia. Then went back to the USA and started the application process.

We waited a month after the engagement to get married.

I'm not sure if Quebec is any different, but it sounds like you are trying to do the same thing as me just in a different province and I doubt the same sex marriage is any different as well.

I am not in a same sex couple, but I was married in Quebec in 2010. You should get in touch with a notary (notaire in French) about the process. A public announcement needs to be made in the paper about 4 weeks prior to the marriage date. They will also handle getting the marriage license prepared. In addition they will walk you through choosing your marriage regime (basically you decide up-front how assets will be split according to a government approved method - there are 3 - prior to marriage, essentially a government written pre-nup), and if you like they can even be the officiant for your wedding ceremony (our notary was also the one who performed our marriage) or you can go to the courthouse for the ceremony (it's cheaper that way). Then they will register your marriage with the government, and in a few weeks you'll get your official marriage certificate. They will also keep original copies of your license, marriage contract and certificate in their vault so if there is ever an issue you can go back to them for it. Also, most notaries speak a decent amount of English so don't feel nervous if you don't speak much French.

You don't have to use a notary, but it really makes things easier if you don't know the system. It cost us about $1000 total, but the price was higher because we altered our marriage contract to make it specific to us and not just the general government language, and our notary came out on a Saturday night to do the ceremony.

I was visiting from the U.S. when I married my husband here (he's Canadian). There was no problem getting married here as a foreigner, I just had to show them my passport and an official copy of my birth certificate at the start of the process.

I really hope that helps. Good luck! :)

This page should provide some guidance regarding Quebec rules and procedures:
http://www.justice.gouv.qc.ca/english/publications/generale/maria-a.htm

"In Québec, two people wishing to make a public commitment to live together may form a civil marriage, whether they are of the same or the opposite sex."

So I think the procedures for any marriage are the same, with the only differences being whether it is a civil or religious ceremony. We are not a same-sex couple, but we did have a civil ceremony, so I think the procedure is the same. We did not put anything in the newspaper, but were required to post a notice in the venue 20 days before the wedding day. We went to the court house to confirm our identities/civil status (and maybe pay? I don't remember), and our officiant was a relative and managed the paperwork for us. We did not use a notary for anything. We also did not actively make any decisions regarding our finances, but we realize that there are legal rules about shared ownership of stuff acquired after marriage. The link above talks through all that. Good luck!

I am curious if same-sex marriages are accepted by society in Canada...? I am afraid that I am going to be in trouble if anyone will know that I am a part of LGBT community.. I need a piece of advice, please

They are not discriminated at all. Matter of fact, if you publicly disagree with LGBT agenda in Canada, you will be discriminated against.
