As long as it's recognized in Taiwan and you were both there in person, it will be recognized by Canada.

I am Canadian and my boy fiend is from the Philippines, does it mean he is not allowed to get married in Taiwan as Philippines doesnt recognized same sex marriage.

If you are Canadian and want to marry your boyfriend, and want for it to be recognized in Canada, you can do the following:
1. Mary your boyfriend in a country where it's recognized.
Note: If Philippines doesn't recognize same sex marriage, and if Taiwan only recognizes it if the marriage took place in a country that recognizes it (which Philippines doesn't belong to), then your marriage (if occurred in Taiwan) would not be legally recognized by Taiwan, nor it would be recognized by Canada.
2. If Canada has "fiancé visa" option, you could bring your boyfriend to Canada under that category,, marry him and thus have your marriage recognized by Canadian laws.
P.S. Don't pay attention to forum bullies and crazies, there are few on this forum and it doesn't appear to be moderated lately. Apparently, among other things, they are homophobic. Just put them on your ignore list (like I do), let them fume and get livid in their own spite, and feel free to ask any questions you may have. Good luck.
Dear Jacklondon and Dan88, I am facing a very similar situation. My boyfriend is a Philippine citizen and I am Canadian. He got 2x refused a visitor visa on grounds that speculated that he would not return and is not financially capable. Both of which is not true and likely is the result of unfairness. Essentially we are unable to get married or get a certificate of common law union. One options seems that we could travel to Taiwan, but when Taiwan only allows Taiwanese citicens to marry foreigners in which country same-sex marriage is allowed, then this would not work. The last resort seems to apply for conjugal sponsorship, which is indefinitely complicated and likely to fail, since we met shortly before covid and for the authorities did not live long enough together.

Conjugal may be very possible. Can you give us more info?
- How much time have you spent together exactly? How many times have you visited each other or how long did you live together? Have you taken a number of vacations together?
- Do you have any shared assets or properties or bank accounts?
- Are your parents / friends aware of your relationship?
- Do you have any other evidence you can think of that shows a "marriage like relationship"?

I have been visiting the Philippines two times and we stayed together for a total of about 5 weeks. I have kept all receipts of travel related things that we did together. I also support him financially for which I have proof. We know each other for 4 years now. I have to work and can't just go and live in the Philippines to fullfill the 1 year requirement. Also there is a rather large age gap of 30years which may cause prejudice.
Yes my children and friends are aware (parents have passed away years ago). Different situation for the boyfriend. He has some friends who know, but not family members.

You need to show a marriage like relationship (of course without the ability to actually get married or live together for a full year to become common law). You are right about the age gap. That is a red flag you will need to overcome through having a strong application in other ways.
I will be honest. Five weeks together is super short. I'm not sure I would apply with this little time together. You also don't have too much proof of a marriage like relationship (genuine devotion is not enough, you need to provide IRCC with evidence that you aren't simply dating but that you are truly in a conjugal relationship). Do you have any other documents that you can provide? Any insurance policies or similar where he is listed as the beneficiary? Any joint bank accounts?
I would recommend that you spend some time reading through historical posts on conjugal applications to see what sort of evidence people have provided in their applications to be approved. You can use the search feature and search on the word "conjugal". Pretty much all of the good posts / threads on this topic will be found in the Family Sponsorship section of the forum.
