I was browsing through this forum and came across a person whose study permit was rejected because the major he's applying to in Canada is available in his country.

I'm an electrical engineering major, I already did my first year in my country and then applied as a transfer student, also electrical engineering, to a university in Canada... Will that be a reason to reject my study permit?! If yes, during the interview, my interviewer didn't ask me why I want to study in Canada...
I already got my university acceptance and CAQ (since I applied to Montreal).

It hasn't been declined yet. But this Friday would be the 12th working day, so I'm getting more worried and nervous by the minute. The thing is, all majors are available in my country, so it feels like its just an excuse they give someone if they just simply don't want to give him the visa.

I am here for PhD economics and it's available in my country. It depends on your statement. e.g. better job op in homeland on finishing course. In every uni in Canada (including mine) on avg 30% students are international and they are doin business, finance, eng courses offered in their homeland. You have to satisfy them this course benefit you more than the course in your homeland e.g. advance technologies, better research, better profs etc.

You have already applied for the Visa. The issue you are bothered about are always tackled by Statement of Purpose. Now there is no need to bother just wait and watch.

Thanks everyone for replying.

Kista, the interviewer told me it takes 12 working days. I applied in my the Canadian Embassy in my country, Lebanon.

Seabiscuit and zulkfal, I'm aware that more majors are available everywhere in the world, that's why I got worried when I read on this forum that someone was rejected for that reason. It made me think that maybe sometimes they just don't want you in Canada so they give you excuses you can't do anything about. What's a Statement of Purpose? I don't think I wrote one, knowing that I did submit all the papers they told me to in addition to my University grades since I already finished my 1st year here and I'm going as a transfer student.
