Hi Everyone!

I'm currently working in Vancouver. My job position meets the requirements of the NOC, but my salary is too low. I've talked to several immigration consultants and all of them told me the same thing that my salary doesn't match job title, that I need to look for another job...sigh... Honestly, I think my job is pretty decent compared to others, and yes, the salary is a bit lower, but still considering that so many people are getting minimum wage, mine looks not bad. Does the salary really matters that much??

Another question is that if I get a another job later, does the previous work experience count as part of the one-year experience required? I'm worried that since my current position does't meet the requirement (if the salary does matter), the experience I've gained won't be included...:(

Anyone can share a little of what you know or have experience with me? Many thanks!!!

Salary is not an issue. The only way it may become an issue is if your job duties don't seem legitimate, or your company doesn't seem legitimate. And even in that case, I would expect the visa officer to inquire further rather than reject you outright. For example, if you work for ABC company and in your position, you're supposed to be making $100,000, and you make $40,000, and your company doesn't have a website, your application may undergo scrutiny. He may call your office to confirm and dig into the matter. What matters is how well you explain your job duties. They have to tell you why you were rejected, and legally (if we go by what the prerequisites of the CEC class are), your rejection letter won't say "I am not convinced that you meet the requirements.....because your salary is not inline with your job." That is not one of the criteria.

It only matters if there are other factors that make your application seem suspicious. Remember, there are lots of companies with CFOs and CEOs. A startup CFO isn't going to make six figures. I would suspect that immigration is aware of that at some level.

Things get difficult when you want a positive labour market opinion. In that case, salary is critical and unfortunately, they don't care about the size of the company. This of course is ridiculously outdated and unfair and stupid. But, that's the reality.

I wouldn't worry too much about salary affecting your CEC app. Focus on providing high quality reference letters.

Beautifully and logically explained, OHKIDDA.
