Guys, do the PROVINCIAL NOMINATION PROGRAMS of all provinces let you apply for PR right after completing your degree if you have got job offer from an employer in that province or do you have to wait for some time? Asking this because I want to do a 1 yr course and therefore my work permit will only be of 1 yr so I'm afraid what happens if my 1 yr work permit expires and I still haven't got the PR? My friend told me that in Alberta, the rule is "you can apply for PR 6 months after working with an employer and even if your 1 yr work permit expires, you're allowed to stay in Canada provided you stick to the same employer".... I'm wondering what's the rule for other provinces?

I don't want to spend double the time and money :( What's the standard rule in these scenarios?

Quebec allows you to apply for PR during your course, upto 6 six months before you graduate. You dont need a job or anything, dont even need a work permit. Just need to be studying and near completion.

I would say its safe based on what my friends have experienced. Don't treat this as a standard, but something to help you weigh your risks. I don't know if all of them were lucky this year and whether things will change going forward.

My friends and I did a one year course, were given 1 year PGWPs. They started working and then they applied for the PNP and PR. Their visas expired within 1 year, however they were given an additional 1 year CLOSED WP (meaning you can't change employers), which was enough time for them to get their PR through the PNP.

Hi,

Does this mean that one have to be working full-time in his relevant stream to get this CLOSED WP or any full-time job would do?

Can you please provide more details on how this CLOSED WP works?

Have a Great Day...!!

1. It happened because they got positive LMO (and closed work permit), it's not a standard rule to happen in every case, specially if you are unskilled!

First you would have to find a job in a skilled profession. You would then work for one full years. Once you have one full year of paid work experience in Canada, you would be able to apply for PR through the CEC program. I believe the processing time for CEC applications is somewhere between 12 and 18 months.
