Dear rupeshhari,

We are in the same boat, my freind, got my recommendation from CIU Sydney.
it took ages:
posted on 30 Nov 2008 (but the very next week was the Eid/Hajj vacation)
They received it on 15 December 2008
Letter dated 22 December 2008
the Canadian postage says 06 Jan 2009
arrived in Saudi Arabia on 12 Jan 2009

My problems are:

- I have until 22 April to send in my docs, My IELTS exam is on 30 April 2009!!

can I asl for an extension by email? or do I have to use post or express service?

- The online tracking says = Withdrawn !! obviously I did not withdraw. what's wrong?

Best wishes for you all

First of all congratulations.
Mine says withdrawn too, I don't think its anything to be worried about, but you can always send them a letter to say that it says withdrawn and you did not withdraw it. I am not sending a letter because I am almost ready to send all my documentation through.

What did you say in your application to Sydney, regarding your IELTS. Did you say you have taken it, did you say you are going to take it and if it is not too personal, how much points did you say you were going to get for IELTS.

I think each of the local visa offices do have an email address, you could email and ask for an extension but I would suggest posting a letter.

Is there no way that you could move your IELTS exam forward?
Thank you for the wishes, I hope you received my wishes in your post.

Well nice to know I am not alone in this (withdrawn issue), seems we got identical letters.
I think trackitt is a good idea, I will contribute my case there.

Regarding IELTS , I wrote NO, I did not take IELTS (any glimmer of hope here?) I to think I can send the documents very soon, but obviously the IELTS will mess up everything, because I need to make sure that the PCC and photos will be recent when I am ready to send the results in mid May!!!!

the only other otion that I have is to check if the IELTS center in another city can acommodate me sooner and fly there the night before the exam, here the center is packed.

thanks again for the responses.

Congrats, the first step has been good for you.

If u said NO for IELTS, did u claim points or provide Written Proof of English Language expertise, or did you claim similar points for french ??

Secondly, if you have an Australian Education Office in Saudia, that may offer IETLS exam too, though chargin a higher amount. Make sure you take the IELTS General Test version.

Your questions are so insightful! you got me thinking.
well, No, I just said no (in your face CIC) I did not write the IELTS, and I send no English language expertise, I claimed I am excellent in all written spoken etc. I have an uncle in Canada so I calimed that too. gained some points for many many years of postgrad education.
All I know of French is small talk, so I ticked No at French language box.

you read my mind, online it says only the British Council conducts the exam, but I will call and check.

thanks for the help, I will ask for more help from the gurus, this could also benefit somebody elese.

stay in touch

Canadastan, so that means they really don't look at anything but ministerial instructions. This means, they can still ask me to do IELTS. I still have to get a birth certificate translated and its so expensive but submitted it in today.
posted at trackitt Federal Skilled worker
why expensive? any special requirements for the translators?

Translators are few so its a niche market, then again, anything is expensive for a student :).
Did you find out what you can do about IELTS? i.e. can you take it earlier?
It takes lots of smarts to get this far with immigration on a student budget!
If I will not make any significant gain; at least a month out of changing the IELTS center, I am thinking to just write the letter that explains why I am claiming English points, when the results for the IELTS come I will just send them.

previously r_sab reminded me of the fact that I did not claim that I sat for the IELTS.
I guess this puts us both back on the same boat again!
If requested from you (I don't wish it upon you, but just to be prepared) how soon you think you can sit for the IELTS? results takes 13 days.

it is still the local weekend here though I will have to wait to Saturday (the start of the week)

at trackitt, I immediately received about 4 enquiries, all fall under your common questions, needless to say I referred them to your common questions post, one of the finest works of this forum, god will be as generous as you are with people. good luck

rupeshhari,
I believe you are a lecturer or teach classes. If you show that you teach classes in English in US and have taken the tests to be a teaching assistant or research assistant, I donot think they can refuse this proof

Thats a good method. To claim english points and then write IELTS.

I am not sure how long it will take for me to do the IELTS. I think it might take about 3 weeks just to take it and another 13 days to get results and another 3 days to send it to CIC.

i am trying to create a whole portfolio of evidence why i shouldn't take it. i dont think it will necessarily work. they will look just at where i was born and where i have lived most of my life and decide.

I am sure we both will be fine. Hopefully, we get our chance to move there soon.

Thanks for the compliment about my common questions post.
Hmmmm,

you know what, I read in another thread the argument you are making for not having IELTS, I don't think I can make a similar argument,
also I read that "proof of language" is a requirement and your application will be returned to you if it is missing!
my situation is alot riskier than yours, I might as well just sit until I do the IELTS.
I will think about it again until I have the rest of the docs ready.

best of luck for you,

Canadastan

I have send my docs to Sydney, NS and waiting to hear. not planning for IELTS and will see what happens.

rupeshhari said:
Thanks ss123. I am going to send this as part of my proof. The english test and my standardized testing scores. Unfortunately, they can only support my argument, but not replace the IELTS. The whole argument (why i don't have to do the IELTS) can only replace the IELTS. Hopefully it works. Did you apply for PR?

The only slot I found to sit for IELTS in another city is on March 14th 2009, I raced to get the application to the British Council there before the slot is snatched again, hope all goes well, will keep u posted.
Barely enough time to send my application after I get the results.

received the docs of my Canadian relative, I am telling you, by the time we send the docs they will be real faaaaaat envelopes.

Wish me luck, how is documents collection growing?

Documentation is almost there. I am just waiting for couple of things by post - bank statement, translation of birth certificate and a transcript from overseas. All should be here soon (i hope). On the Buffalo website, they even tell you how to organize your documents which might be useful if you have many documents. Mine is quite a bit.

For proof of English, I wanted to send them two journal articles that I had co-authored as well as a chapter in a book, but I am not sure if I am breaking copyright rules by the sending those things. I guess I might send the journal papers but only refer to the chapter and they can check it out if they want. My current boss was kind enough to say that the one of the main criteria for chosing me as his TA was based on my communication skills. I hope all that helps.

when do you find out if you got the slot or not. Praying that you get it. I am sure you will.

Good luck
Almost the same here, but still waiting for 2 PCC, will check the buffalo website, London says nothing about organizing the papers,
I am no Lawyer but I heard a lawyer saying that if you do not use the chapter copy TO MAKE MONEY OFF IT, then there are no basis for infringment, but a quick consultation where you are, and a letter to the publisher should do the trick. I think you are making them a water proof case. good luck.

I appreciate your wishes and prayers, should know this evening or tomorrow morning.

best wishes

your prayers have been answered my friend!
I got confirmation for IELTS slot, but still worrying:
I had to take the academic!
My wife will be sitting for the exam in one end of the city and I will be sitting for it at the other end! will try to work out the hotel location and the transportation (I am driving). but at least it is now on 14 March not 30 April. (sumbission by 22 April)

good luck , stay in touch

Good for you. Is Academic okay? I thought you had to do general (i am quite confused on this). The CIC booklet clearly says general, but others say they got through with academic version etc.
either this or I miss the deadline, hard choices

Guess what, I emailed CIC London for the PCC letter, (i need to present it here in Saudi Arabia if I want the PCC issued)
they said because of your country of residence you are not required NOW to present it, it is required when there is a positive reply, then we will send you the letter (somthing like the medicals).
