I am not promoting. I am simply highlighting a case that has been ongoing in the canadian media which caused a negative impact on foreign spousal applications. You need to connect the dots between these cases and the government's initatives that has been happening recently.
The first article (when she took her case to the media), the fact that she spoke out and a lot of scammed spouses did, did have a connection/negative impact on how applications for Family Class are handled. This article is just gossip about how the loser is now struggling to clean his name.

Anyway, I'm happy that he's having a hard time, it's nothing less than what he deserves. I hope all those scammers, from all types of immigration classes, have a HARD time with karma getting back at them.

Hi

Interesting, CIC refused saying it was a MOC, appellant appealed, won claiming it wasn't, and now we find out that CIC was right in the first place.
That's exactly what I thought when I read the first story in July.

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2010/07/16/immigration-marriage-fraud541.html

I disagree with the poster who urged people to stop posting stories like this. This forum is full of sponsors and applicants and I think it's nice to see that there is a large majority who support enforcement of the laws surrounding fraud and the punishment of the perpetrators. There's long been a stance on this forum of "genuine only". Every now and then we get a new poster who thinks they can ask about how to find the "easy" way into Canada through marriage and they get beaten up pretty quickly.

Yeah, the VO got it right in this case. I know of another case where a similar thing happened. However, there was no way the fraudster was going to give up their shiny new PR card. The victim was too humilated to go public. Applications + appeals take a long time. I said before, fraudsters will be patient most of the time! But there's another story I know of where the application was refused and the foreign spouse has now moved on to looking for marriage with people from Europe leaving the Canadian spouse devastated but grateful to CIC for seeing something they couldn't. Very sad.

However, VOs don't get it right all the time when it comes to MOC. I also know several couples who won appeals and are happily married, living their lives in Canada years later. Those people say that they learned the hard way that a properly prepared application would have saved them lost time, heartache and $$$$! They didn't take it seriously enough at the application stage and assumed (wrongly) that just showing a marriage certificate was enough and CIC would believe them. Obviously not.
