Hi ,

They say that Services Canada is talking longer to process LMOs because of the recession. It usually takes 2 weeks in Ontario, now it takes about 7 weeks. Do you think there's truth to this?

Yes, I think it is true.
We 've heard a lot here in NB. About the same.
Slowing down LMO processes. And they say there is no guarantee that they issue the work permits eveb if you get an vslid LMO.
They also say they will not issue any PNP nominations any more during the next time (weeks/month?)

But once one employer is ready to take you Service Canada or CPC should have any problem. If thsi rumour is true, it is really ridiculous.

The purpose for an LMO is to check that the employer actually needs to hire a foreigner and if he's paying market wage. It would make no sense for Canada to approve an LMO for a job that an unemployed Canadian wants to and is qualified to do. It would also not make sense to approve LMO's for jobs paying $10 an hour when the market wage for that job is $20 and there are unemployed people in that field also.

A work permit after the LMO is to make sure they actually want that person. The LMO might be approved, say the job is ok but the person who is applying for the work permit is not ok, maybe they don't have the qualifications to do the job or maybe they don't speak English or whatever. Then it would make no sense to approve them.
