Sorry for what happened. I wouldn't cancel the application. I would send all the papers for the RQ. And if you don't have some of the papers required, write a letter explaining why. The worse that could happen is see a judge to make the decision. And since you have a job and a wife in Canada, the judge won't be denying you.
For the next time, even if you don't have any income, you should do your taxes.

i could do that, i dont have much of what they want from that time. I can apply for tax returns for the years they want when i get back and hope that wont take too long. I can try emailing my old landlord but that is unlikely to come up with anything. I have bank / visa statements from those years. Health cards, gym memberships, ontario id. Is it worth explaining and sending all of that stuff?
Since january 13' i have been studying full time in toronto and that time is easily recorded but they want from before. Should i mention the studying too as it shows im commited to years in canada with that, even if its not the same years?

Looking through my online banking from those years i have direct debit pay from a christmas job i had once at indigo (the only job with a company) direct debits to the ymca and a boxing gym. A Long & Mquade credit that gets paid monthly and hundreds of general atm and debit payments for toronto locations. Is any of that stuff useful for RQ?

1. If you paid rent by cheque, print copies of the cashed cheques
2. did you sign up for the gym, volunteer work, etc? If so, get copies of the sign up form or letter from the organization
3. can you neighbors write a letter to attest you have been living there?
4. you mentioned something about doing music - if you went for gigs, can you ask the band members to write a letter to attest to it? do you have hotel receipts?
5. did you go to the dentist?

Just try to think of any situations where you have(or can obtain) evidence of your physical presence.
