Hi all,

I opened this new topic to ask all the people who got RQ to share with us why they think they got RQ, if they think that they deserve it or not, and provide us with all the documents that they sent after they got RQ'ed ...

Almost no one "deserves" an RQ :(

Its based on the complete "personal" evaluation of a CIC agent!

I knew a family that recently got an RQ... their case was really straight forward.. never traveled outside Canada...
kids at schools... wife is working, husband couldn't find a permanent job, so he has like 7 jobs during the last 3 years!

Anything could trigger a CIC agent's red flag :)

All what we have about RQ reasons are assumptions... (probably because if they disclose their internal guidelines ... it WILL be so racist, that no one would get away with it!).

This is the worst thing in the whole process... its totally judgmental and based on "general" guidelines that were never disclosed to public.

Just like the immigration application process, CIC officers working on citizenship applications will conduct random verifications on the authenticity of the information the applicant is providing. And if they find some inconsistencies, in my opinion will trigger an RQ. If everything you declared are true then RQ is not a thing to be worried about.

I wouldn't believe its random...
but they have to say so, or otherwise it would be classified as discrimination and/or racism.

CIC officers have few "triggers"... when they see these "red flags" in an application, they ask for the RQ.

Now, the fact that these triggers remain undisclosed is by itself a bad sign... I mean why would a federal government officer be afraid of disclosing how he works to prevent abusing the system and verifying the info submitted in an application..etc...?

I guess most of us, wouldn't see it as a random process... :o

RQ has been discussed many times on this forum, anyways this is the list of reasons I compiled that could possibly trigger RQ in ones case.

If you fall in any of the following categories or combinations of categories listed below then it may trigger RQ in your case...

1) Self-Employed, Own a business
2) Work on contracts basis, freelancing
3) Unemployed for some period during the 4 years of residence history
4) Too many travels out of Canada to other countries, say USA
5) Too many travels out of Canada to your native place
6) Extended stays out of Canada (say long vacations like 2-3 months at a stretch)
7) Family Application without child(ren's) school records (for children of school age)
Mismatches/missing stamps on passport with respect to the corresponding visits you made
9) Travel out of Canada during unemployment time
10) Missed to report any absence in Residence Calculator

Thanks sweetakash... very useful post.

I just want to mention that I personally know a family where they qualify of 4 triggers out of the ones you mentioned... yet they didn't get QR (they are citizens now)...

May be they will get Audited later, as CIC can investigate some cases after 4-5 years of citizenship.

Namely... that family had the same situations as in 1,3,4 & 9 of your post.

It has been saying that RQ is issued in less amount. guess CIC has implement some tools to deal with frauds. like, sharing border information with USA now.
really dont think frequent travel is a big deal, some people i know cross the border on a weekly basis and still get their Citizenship within a year.

Yes, I wish you were right, but the sharing info over border is done only with USA as of now, frequent trips elsewhere could still mean a RQ trigger.
Secondly, frequent visits to USA by itself may not, but combined with say, visits during unemployment time, or inconsistent entries, road trips could trigger RQ.

honestly, the law is simple. as long as u have no criminal record and has lived in canada for 3 yrs in the last 4 years b4 applying citizenship, ur case should be approved. really dono why its such a difficult task for our government. and i have said it many times, it only took other countries, like Australia, New Zeeland , U.K months to process citizenship application. Ours take up to 2 yr or longer is nonsense

Thanks everyone for all of your comments.

I think there is no a specific reason for RQ, its more like a decision from CIC officers if they see any small problem or issue with the application.

hi,
Sweetakash observation is littke bit wrong i think,
As sweetakash said one of the reason is self employed, i dont think so. There
is a reason for rq with self employed with trevel, not only if somebody is self employed only,
A self employed person with trevel can be...........

Ok here is my experience. When I went for my citizenship test , the lady told me that they should'nt give me the RQ but the reason I got RQ was my unemployment....

RQ is a mystery. The worst is to get one after the test. That is a curse.

Were you unemployed for a long while ?

Personally, I am waiting the RQ as a normal thing that will happen to me ... ;D

I left Canada three times for the last four years ... 8)
