Hey guys,

I had to get some of my passport stamps translated for my RQ. However, do I send CIC a photocopy or the original translation?
I called CIC several times and sometimes I'm being told to submit originals, sometimes I'm being told to submit photocopies.

I know I have asked this question before, but the conflicting responses from the call-centre have confused me.
How did other people solve this issue?

Sincerely,

As far as I know for passport translation you should submit the original one, I suggest you keep the copy for yourself though. Please ensure that translation needs to be certified otherwise CIC won't accept it. . check this website to find certified translators in your area http://search.atio.on.ca/search/do/SE7183620f3ea

I recommend sending high quality photocopies and bringing the originals to your interview (have you had the test and interview yet?), but it's a confusing issue so it comes down to which course of action you're most comfortable with. How extensive are the translations? How much would it cost to replace them if CIC or the postal service lost your RQ submission? This happens very rarely, but it does happen. Personally, I think it's a good idea to be cautious (and send copies) due to the CIC's confusion and contradictory information on the issue. Regardless, be sure to send any CIC correspondence with tracking numbers and signature required.

If you want to be super careful, you can include something in your cover letter that says you are following the instructions of call centre staff, such as: "In accordance with the advice of CIC Call Centre Agent XXXX (you should always note the name of the agent and the time and date of the call) during my call on 1 July 2014 at 2pm, I am sending high quality photocopies of my passport stamp translations as part of my RQ response. Please contact me within the next 90 calendar days if the originals are required or preferred at this stage of processing and I will send them promptly. If not, I will bring the originals to my citizenship test and interview for review by the citizenship officer when the time comes."

If you decide to send the original translations though, like Shaazdeh says, you need to make high quality photocopies to keep yourself.

Thanks for your response, guys!

Yes, all my translations are atio translations.

Eileenf, the letter sounds like a good idea. I will probably use a similar version, as I am reluctant to simply mail out documents that documents that cost me over $300 in total.

M husband was requested to translate his passport too, he went back and gave them the original translation personally...... He passed in February and still nothing.... So don't buy any flight tickets anytime soon!
