RPRF Requested - Should I tell them I married, even though I can not get certifi

CIC sent me a letter today saying my PR application has been found eligible and that I can pay the RPRF fee (YAY), it also says in the letter that if my address changed or if I got married since our last correspondence, then I should let them know at this email address.

I did change my address and get married, but, I told them about my address change in my previous correspondence and they have chosen to ignore it. (I also told them I was getting married). It says that any new spouse will have to be added to the application and found admissable, but my husband is Canadian so I don't think that matters, because my application was found eligible based on work experience and has nothing to do with being married to him.

The other complicating factor is that if I tell them I have got married they will want proof, it says in this letter they will need a marriage certificate. We only got married in November and you have to wait 90 days for a marriage certificate so I won't have that for probably another month or so and don't want to delay my PR any further waiting for it.

Do I email them and say my address changed and I am married but can't provide the marriage cert yet? And risk complicating and delaying things. Or do I not say anything and hope that my previous correspondence was enough notification for them... Opinions welcome!

You will want to inform them of your marriage, as you could be denied at landing if they discover you misrepresented your relationship. They will require you to fill out forms for your husband, even though he is a Canadian. It will likely delay your application a little, but it's the right thing to do at this point and will eliminate any uncertainty.

Most service offices have a process for expediting marriage certificates, and you might be able to get one quicker if you can show them that it will affect your immigration application.

Look, you have to tell CIC the truth. Since you married a Canadian citizen, it won't have any impact on your application.

Send CIC an email - Tell them that you recently got married TO A CANADIAN CITIZEN and the date (surely you have some document to prove that - scan and attach that), and that you are still waiting for the marriage certificate. Scan a copy of his birth certificate, passport, and/or other other citizenship document. As if they require any further documents. KEEP A COPY OF YOUR CORRESPONDENCE.

I'm not sure, unless they've changed procedures (happens all the time), chances are you won't have to fill out or revise any forms, since you won't be adding him to your application.

I see your point and tend to agree although I really don't want to delay things any further when the marriage itself does not relate to my application.

I haven't really mis represented my relationship - I wrote to them a few months ago in response to their query over my work experience, I explained my duties in more detail and provided contact info for the employer - and in that letter I also took the opportunity to update them that my address had changed and I was getting married. I made a point of telling them that if they rejected my application based on my roles and responsibilities, that I would only re apply once I was married to my partner anyway.

And they chose not to reject it LOL. So I kind of feel like I already told them I was getting married. How would they ever know at the border anyway?

jes_ON you think they won't make me do a whole bunch more stuff and take forever to give me PR? If not then I will email them for sure, I would rather tell the truth. I just don't want to make it way longer for me and for them, if its not necessary..

If somehow CIC found out later, your PR could be revoked for misrepresentation. Do you really want to worry about that?

Look, citizens cannot be added to PR applications. They are already citizens. This will not cause you any delays.

it is very serious for CIC when it comes to martial status. you can easily be accused of misrepresentation at anytime. it doesn't matter if it affects your application or not.

telling them that you are going to get married is different than telling them I got married.

there are plenty of stories about people got denied during landing and even after landing because of this specific case, your exact case!

oh btw, if you get accused of misrepresentation, they can issue an exclusion order against you. which means you will be banned to enter Canada for two years!

You guys are 100% right of course!

I went home, thought about it and decided that I had to tell them regardless of the potential delay to my PR date. Even if they do make me fill out a bunch more forms or wait for 2 months til I can show them a marriage certificate, that is better than me not saying anything and potentially getting into trouble further down the line.

I emailed the address they gave me, with a scan of the marriage licence / record of solemnization, and a copy of my husband's passport so they can see he is Canadian. I explained I can not apply for the proper marriage certificate until 90 days is up. And I informed them again that my address had changed and I had told them that in the last correspondence.

Thanks for the replies, that's why this forum is so good because none of my friends or people here know a lot about CIC or how it works, so I needed people to tell me the obvious answer LOL.

Good luck to those of you still waiting!

By doing this you are doing a favour to yourself .
You can't (should not) lie to CIC. That's all
