RN who is extremely confused by work permit applications!

Hello everyone

I'm hoping some people who have been through this process before can offer me some guidance because I am SO confused.

I am an RN currently here on a working holiday visa from the UK. My permit expires on the 6th Jan. I am in the process of applying for a new permit. I understand that I can continue to work with implied status after the current permit has expired so that isn't a problem.

I have two jobs at the moment, one part time one casual. I have applied for a LMO for my part time job and am just waiting for a response.

Now my question is, do I need to apply for a completely new work permit or can I just apply to change the conditions of my current one? It says that you can apply for a new permit from inside Canada if you already hold a valid permit, but of course the form used to apply says "application from outside Canada". Will this matter? Sorry for all the questions I just want to make sure I get this right the first time. Obviously my current WP is an open permit and I know that this would have to be changed.

If I had known this whole process was going to be so hard I'd have started applying months ago!!!

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Kirsty,

Was your working holiday Visa done through BUNAC? If it was, those visas are capped at 12 months and can't be extended.

If you are going down the LMO route and will be applying for a TWP you should be aware that the TWP will only allow you to work for the employer listed on it . This means that of your jobs you can only work the "part time" one if they get you the LMO. Doing any casual work is not an option as it could jeopardize your immigration status.

Also if you want to switch jobs or extend the TWP further, you have to get a new LMO and apply for a TWP again.

Yes it was done through BUNAC. In that case do I just need to apply for a completely new work permit rather than trying to apply for an extension?

If you are seeking an LMO for a part-time position, read this page every carefully...

As far as I know, you cannot extend a BUNAC visa.

To continue working, you have to have a new contract and LMO. This means the company needs to adhere to strict advertising rules and convince Service Canada there are no Canadians for the job.

I also believe, that LMO's will only be issued to full time employment. Full time hours do vary from Provence to Provence but I think as you have stated part time then the LMO will not succeed.
