Hello everyone. Today I received a letter from the Case Processing Center saying that in order to conclude my relative's application abroad , a Right ofPermanent Residence Fee in the amount of $490.00 is required. I am a Canadian living here in Canada and bringing my wife and dependant child here to me.

1. I have already paid $700.00 for the Application to Sponsor and was wondering if them asking for $490.00 will cover both my wife and our son?

2. And, does this letter I just received signify a good thing? Not sure what stage of the game this means we are at.

Thanks for any advice given, best of luck and wishes to all of you out there as well. ;)

Alright, maybe I'm not asking this right. :)

1. Right of Permanent Residence Fee. They are asking for $490.00 and I am wondering if this amount includes both my wife 'and' son. Or, if you have to pay that amount twice.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

First off, congratulations, you are nearing the end of the road. The RPRF is requested when they have concluded that the applicant can be approved for PR.

The $490 should be applicable only to your wife. If you are a citizen and the child is yours, your son inherits your citizenship and is not being sponsored, so you don't need to pay the fees for him.

Our son was from a previous relationship that my wife had many years ago. He was included with our package for immigration and acknowledged as so (as a dependent child) when I was sent the confirmation that I had been accepted as a sponsor. This letter I received today though only mentions my wife, that is why I am confused. It should also say 'and dependent' if they wish me to pay more than $490.00 but they only mention that I need to pay $490.00.

So, do the independent child of the principal applicant need to pay it as well?

And 'thank you'. It's looking good so far. :)

Ahh I see. Well, in that case, you may want to check with the CIC Helpline, as the website is not particularly helpful in establishing if children need to pay the RPRF fee. Or maybe someone with experience with children in an application could comment here.

I would imagine if it was payable for him, they would have said so in the letter, but you can never be too certain. You might also consider sending a case-specific inquiry to the email of the Visa Office processing her application.

And again, straight from CIC website:

For the acquisition of permanent resident status $490
This fee is payable by principal applicants (with some exceptions) and accompanying spouses and common-law partners. It must be paid before the immigrant visa is issued overseas or before the applicant becomes a permanent resident in Canada.

The following applicants are not required to pay this fee:

dependent children of a principal applicant or sponsor, a child to be adopted, or an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild; and
protected persons, including Convention refugees.

Good luck everyone, and God Bless! ;)

I also paid RPRF after my sponsorship approval on 25th Feb 2011. Till date no news regarding my RPRF from CIC.
You can try login to your E-CAS with RPRF receipt number and if you can login that means RPRF has been processed by CIC.
In my case nothing happened till now.
Alternatively you can call CIC and find out about RPRF.

From what I read on the cic website is, that if you do not pay your fee upfront when you submit your paperwork, that if they have to come and ask you for it, then it takes an additional couple to a few months to process. We are paying ours right up front because we want this to go as quick and smoothly as possible. Haha, quick, yeah, none of this is quick.

Hello

I did not pay RPRF at the time of filing application.
I did not want to delay my visa. So I paid RPRF on 18th Feb 2011 without waiting for visa office to ask for RPRF. I paid RPRF after my sponsorship approval on 16th feb 2011. I faxed CPC-M on 21st Feb 2011 and also sent the same to CPC-M by post on 23rd feb 2011. I did not send anything to New Delhi Visa Office.

I received a letter from CPC-M on 14th March 2011 stating that they had received RPRF for my application and they had processed the same on 10th March 2011. Letter from CPC-M was dated 10th feb 2011. They also stated that they had already sent the same confirmation to New Delhi Visa Office.

Hope this will help.

Can you provide me with the Fax number for CPC-M or do you know where I can find it on the website?
