Hi, I'm new to the forum. I was wondering if anyone could clarify what the above referenced fee is. I'm an American citizen being sponsored by my Canadian wife, and we are currently living in Toronto. I received the following email from the Buffalo Consulate that is handling my file.

"Have your sponsor pay the Right of Permanent Residence fee in Canada CPC MISSISSAUGA REQUIRES THAT YOUR SPONSOR PAY YOUR RIGHT OF PERMANENT RESIDENCE FEE. PLEASE FOLLOW COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAYMENT AT CIC web site. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR FEE TO THE BUFFALO OFFICE. This must be received at this office by: 05/14/2012"

When we submitted the file in Noy 2011, we paid on line a fee of $550,00 for which we got a receipt. Is the Right of Permanent Residence fee a SEPARATE and additional fee, or have they simply not registering what was already paid?

Thanks in advance.
James

It's a separate / additional fee of $490. In other words, the total fees for sponsoring a spouse are $1040.
