Reviving PR

My wife and I became PR in 2014, but never stayed in Canada, so not met the 2 out of 5 year stay obligation. We currently reside in the US. Now we have a baby too, who was not part of our initial PR application. We are now reconsidering moving to Canada. Is there a way we can try to revive our current PR, and also apply for our child's PR? Alternatively we are also looking into reapplying, but that would require us to renounce existing PR first. Before we take a chance with the renouncing and reapplying route, wanted to see if there is a simpler way to immigrate to Canada using our existing PRs that would not affect out child too.

You can try re-entering Canada and hope you are not reported for failing to meet RO. If you are able to re-enter without being reported, then you can remain in Canada for two years straight - then apply to renew your PR status. Note that you won't be able to sponsor your child for PR until the two years have passed and you meet RO. Your child won't be covered by the health care system until he/she has PR status. So you're looking at around 2 1/2 years of paying for your child's health care needs (or getting private insurance coverage).

Thank you scylla. Even if we are not reported and stay in Canada for 2 years, my child would be considered illegal in the country and I cannot apply for SIN number etc. for the child right?

You can keep extending your child's visitor status so that your child has legal status in Canada. Your child cannot apply for a SIN until he/she has PR status.

Thank you scylla. If reapplying, I should first renounce my existing PR before creating an Express Entry profile? Can they reject our application if we get an ITA even if PRs renounced before we get ITA but just because we had not renounced it before we created the profile. Just trying to see if we could do things in parallel to save time.
