Returning to visit after overstay

I'm from the US and came to visit my now-husband in Canada back in 2019, I had planned to stay for only 6 months but due to various circumstances (mostly the pandemic) I ended up overstaying by about 2 years. I'm finally leaving this summer to go to school in the US, but I'm wondering if I'll be allowed to return to Canada to visit, probably no more than a week or two. I absolutely do not intend to overstay again (we'll be submitting a spousal sponsorship application once I'm out of Canada) but I'm worried about being banned from entering.

1. Once I'm back in the US I'll have strong ties (renting an apartment and enrolled in college), will that be enough to prove that I'm not planning to overstay again?
2.Should I wait a few months after moving back to the US to try to visit?
3. Would I have to explain why I overstayed in the first place?

1. None of us can tell you that. It will be up to the CBSA officer you speak to at the border. However you won't have a ban so re-entry will be possible.
2. I would wait at least six months before returning given the length of your overstay. Have your husband visit you instead.
3. If you are asked, then yes. I think one question you'll want to be able to answer is why you didn't extend your status to keep yourself legal in Canada vs. going out of status.

So did you ever leave when you were told too, or just decided to ignore it ?
From your postings you have a history of non compliance in your stays, why worry about it now ? That ship has sailed
