Returning to Canada just before expiring PR card

Hello All,
My PR card is expiring on Sep 2020 and my citizenship application is in process. I have a planned travel to India and my question is can i return to canada just before expiring the card.
Can i apply for renewal after i come? and if my card expiring say SEP 15th when can i return to canada? Pls suggest

You must enter Canada by September 15th if you are coming by plane.

Yes, you can return just before your PR card expires (assuming you are in compliance with the residency obligation).

To be safe, I would leave a couple of days buffer for any unforeseen circumstances (eg your flight might be cancelled). But technically you can return up until the expiry date on the card.
