Guys,

We soft landed in Sep 2017 to become PR and are planning to return back to Canada in Oct-Nov of this year. We are expecting a baby in Jan-Feb of 2019. We have a few questions :-

1. Can a PR return back to Canada with 6-7 month pregnancy ?
2. Can we run into any immigration complication as our family composition is going to change soon?
3. We have our valid PR cards with us. Is it sufficient for travelling and do we need to inform IRCC about this development before we return ?
4. If we decide to have baby outside of Canada, what is the best way to get PR for the baby ?
5. How to get health services in Ontario in such cases ?
6. Anyone who's been through such situation lately ?

Thanks !

1. You can, but it's risky leaving it this late.
2. No immigration complications. However you and your wife will not qualify for health care coverage for the first three months you are in Ontario and will have to pay for all costs related to the pregnancy during this three month period. If the baby comes during those initial three months, you will have to pay out of pocket for all costs related to the delivery/birth.
3. PR card is sufficient.
4. You will have to sponsor the baby for PR. You can only sponsor the baby while living in Canada. You can try applying for a TRV to take your baby with you to Canada before PR is approved - however around 50% of cases are refused. If the TRV is refused, one of you would have to travel to Canada ahead of the rest of the family to sponsor your child for PR and then remain in Canada while the PR application is processed (which should take around six months).
5. See above. You will have to pay for all health care you receive for the first three months you are in Canada.

Thanks for your reply.

By risky, do you mean health risk ?

Also, we live in USA. We are evaluating our options as either US or Canada.
By risky - I mean risky that you'll end up having to pay for the birth/delivery yourself. That could be anywhere from around $7K for a completely straight forward birth to a great deal more if there are complications.

Hey what did you finally did...actually we are in same situation...can you please guide us..
We have received our PR cards than found out about pregnancy

1. Give birth in US , can child travel to canada on tourist visa.. how long it takes to sponsor child? Do one parent have to stay in canada while sponsoring.

2. Before giving birth if we decide to.move to canada what is the process...do we need to inform cic?

Pleaseee help.

Here's what I think. It is just my personal opinion :-

1. Give birth in US , can child travel to canada on tourist visa.. how long it takes to sponsor child? Do one parent have to stay in canada while sponsoring.

Ans : Yes, child can travel on US passport and live for 6 months. You can sponsor your child as soon as you land but you one of you need to be physically present.

2. Before giving birth if we decide to.move to canada what is the process...do we need to inform cic?

I did not opt for this option for a simple reason that I don't want to risk the process by moving to a new place. Moreover, US health care system is much faster if you have employer provided insurance.

Hope this helps and best of luck !
