I am Canadian Citizen returning to Canada after being in Switzerland for 11 years. The question I have and cannot find is when is that I am again a permanent resident. Is it when I land at the airport and declare I am returning? I have also read that it is what you file on your first years tax return which seems somewhat wrong. If so I can make it up or change it to when I want to have it. Which for tax reasons would be very useful. Anyone know that answer to this question?

Yes, that is true and I guess I worded things wrong. Yes, I am a citizen but the CRA sees me as permanent resident outside of Canada. I have been filling my Canadian taxes every year due to my rental property invcome which I had to declare. So when I return, which date do I have to state? My return also involves my Swiss taxes and investments. I just do not want to get double taxed, so my date of return is curcial.

I have tried and even they cannot give me a straight answer. It's funny it seems like such an easy question to answer. When being a Canadian Citizen with a "Non-Resident of Canada" status with CRA, when does that change when retuning to Canada permanently? The day he lands in Canada, you would think is the answer but for some reason it appears not to be, no nobody can give me the correct answer. o_O lol
