Hi friends
I applied my study visa outside of Canada in my home country this July, three days after my old study permit expired.
I have been living in Canada for the past six years. However, when I applied outside of Canada,I am informed that I’ll no longer get the actual study permit, I’ll get a port entry letter instead. Can I use this letter along with my new TRV to enter Canada? I called CBSA, they said it’s ok for me to enter Canada since I’m a returning student. But I’m not sure that if the ground stuff will allow me to get on the plane.
also,I have been waiting for the final approve for three months, and I really need to return to Canada since all my personal stuff are in Canada. I didn’t expect the application process would take this long (my mistake). Can I send IRCC webforms and emails explaining my situation and kindly ask for speeding up my application ?
Are there any other ways I can contact IRCC?

Thank You

You can't really expedite your application processing. If you encounter an issue with ground staff at the airport then they should call the CBSA for guidance. Make sure they accurately describe your situation (i.e. you were a study permit holder before March 18, you live in Canada, and you have a POE letter).

I am in the exact same situation as you. I am a returning student who has been studying in Canada since Fall 2016. My previous permit got expired during first week of July 2020 and I applied for new permit during first week of April 2020. I am waiting on final approval too. Let's stay in touch since we both are in the same boat.

Hi, I am also in the exact situation as you. I was studying in Canada from Jan 2019 to Feb 2020. My visa expired in Feb and due to unfortunate circumstances I had to go back to my home country. I applied for a new study permit in February, about 2 weeks after my visa expired. I still haven't received a decision on my application. Please inform me as to what IRCC says about being allowed back into Canada as a returning student.

Most likely, they will allow us given we already have Canadian history (bank account, SIN, employment (maybe?), lease, etc.) The biggest hurdle is getting final approval. It seems like IRCC is not rolling out final decisions.

I really do hope so. We need to know if AIP's will continue considering the 15th has passed.

Hi, CBSA said we are allowed to enter Canada. But iam afraid that the ground stuff won’t allow us to get on plane since they do check our travel documents before we board. Which country you apply from ?

Since your permit expired it is no longer an extension you applied for but a brand new permit thats why you only getting a letter same as first time getting a permit, it would seem that you wouldnt meet the March 18th exemption but there is some interpretation I guess.
Definitely check with the airline.
How did you contact CBSA?

Hi I asked my friend to call CBSA for me.

Hey, I am pretty much in the same situation. I am a 4th year student at McGill, previous study permit expired on August 31st and I applied for a new one from France on August 23rd. I provided biometrics on September 2nd and according to the processing times I should get a response by the end of October. I didn't receive AIP even though it's been a month since I applied and saw people get it in like 5 days so I am bit worried. Keep us updated if you receive your entry letter.

Thanks !

Hi, no way they can get their SP in 5 days at this moment unless they apply it within Canada. I got my AIP two months after I applied and am still waiting for approval
