Apologies this will probably have been asked before.
Is it generally permissible to retire to Canada from UK?

Status:

  • spouse same as above but by 7 years
  • no children
  • financially secure, no debt etc
  • no criminal records
  • good health
  • open to work (both have backgrounds in top US medical corp)
Thanks in advance.

Do you have any status in Canada?

Hi,
No, we are UK citizens and so would be looking to apply for Canadian citizenship.
You would need to become permanent residents before you can qualify for citizenship. However realistically, permanent residency is not going to happen for you based on your age. You would need to apply for PR through one of Canada's economic immigration applications. These programs are focused on attracting younger individuals who have a few decades of work ahead of them.

If you want to do some research on what it takes, suggest looking into the Express Entry program. This is a points based program where those with the highest points are selected for PR. Right now an individual needs to score well above 500 points to be selected.

However almost certainly Canadian PR / citizenship is out of reach for you and you will need to be satisfied with visiting Canada occasionally as tourists.

Yes, I thought as much but could not get a definitive answer elsewhere.
Thank you for your help though.
