Resume:any hints for an economist/financial analyst, possibly from an HR-person?

Hello everybody!

I have now (finally!) a work permit and a SIN-number and I applied for about ~20-25 different positions. Nobody even got back to me

Background: I am situated in Ottawa [cannot leave for another place due to my wife] and have two graduate degrees in Economics (graduated in 2015) and I am a CFA-Level-II Candidate. In addition, I have a metric sh*t ton of experience (was working in various academic and private research positions since 2010).

But somehow I'm doing things wrong and applying for jobs here seems to be very different from my native country (Germany) (I know all about "don't put a photo / personal things like birthday, marriage status etc" already). E.g. in Germany it only matters what your education is and that's it, there is way more flexibility in that regard in Canada.

I updated my Resume but I am highly confused:
1) There seem to be different types of Resumes ("first job after graduation"-type versus "I have already experience"-type). I don't really know which one applies in my case.

You left it unfinished, carry on. Looks like CFA is the industry standard there, Canada has the second largest number of charter holders in the world so if you're just a candidate, it won't help much. Do you think a degree from a top Canadian school would do the trick?

Have you started any mentee-montorship program or attended workshops related to it? You mentor will better provide guidance in this regard. Is your occupation is regulatory or non regulatory?

I am in a similar situation to you but I specialise in training and development . I have tons of experience and completed a Canadian training and development qualification, and I am also struggling to even get one interview. Regarding your resume, I was told you should put work experience first as you have tons of it, and last qualifications, which should go from highest to lowest. Resume should be max 2 pages. I actually did get a response for a job, it was to be a packer, working night shift. I didn't come all this way to be a packer, takes me back to my school days, when I worked part time. It seems like it's going to be a lot harder for an experienced immigrant to get into the job market than I anticipated and I cannot survive on a packers salary. I was also told it's all about who you know, again, very difficult for a new immigrant! Good luck and hang in there xx
