Good Day! please help me to find the answer about divorce in Edmonton, Alberta. my Canadian Bf filed uncontested divorce in AB. Wife signed the papers and decide to settle down too soon once they get the divorce papers. Its in court now since Sept. 5, 2014. Do you know how long will it take to get the courts decision? they said its only one month once you send it in court with no problems with the papers and no appeal from the wife. members do you have an idea? or any experience? please help. thank you and God Bless us all.

I think you should seek advice from a good legal adviser who handles these immigration issues.See this site leemeierlaw.com , if this would help you get your answers.

What immigration issues? The OP is asking about divorce paper-work issues.

The minimum may only be a month, but it will also be a minimum of one year from your official date of separation before a decree of divorce will be issued.

I do not know if AB is the same on Divorce as BC is, although I imagine the rules might be country wide not provincial. My now husband had a non contested divorce a couple years ago, they had been separated for 6 years before they went with the non contested divorce. His took 3 months for the first part of the process. After the 3 months he had to take the paperwork to special place, not sure what it was called, and that took another month before it was considered finalized. We had been dating about 2.5 years and were waiting until his divorce was final so we could marry, it felt like forever to us. We married about 3 months after it was final. Good luck.

Divorces are handled by Family Courts, which are provincial.
