Hi I would like to get feedback from those who've contacted an mp to look into their immigration file, were they an help? How long after they contacted CIC did you get ppr? And feedback would be appreciated.

Thank You

I signed the consent form yesterday at MP's office.. told me I'll get an update in few days.. In other words at least some news is better than no news when it comes to sponsoring someone. :D

I live in PEI and contacted Liberal MP at the 10 month mark waited a few days for a reply after they contacted Havana. If I would have emailed Havana would have gotten the same information. The immigration office does not give anymore info than you get via an email or call to the call center. Hope your MP is more helpful. Really a waste of time unless you have reached the time line for your immigration office. Good Luck

I just signed my consent forms today as well and was given the same timeline.

an mp may not be willing to (or able to) do anything until it's past the processing time posted on the cic website or if there is a significant issue with a document request. as the other poster indicated, more than likely they won't be able to get any more information you would be able to get yourself. the need of an MP getting involved is for when something is unusually wrong with the application. they are not going to be much help if you are seeking general information about your file.

I am from Nova Scotia, my MP office told us they had no idea what we were asking about and that they couldn't contact CIC for us. I guess because I am from a very small town they don't deal with this a lot and didn't know.
So I guess it really depends on who you're dealing with, and as everyone else said it seems they only get the general information you already know from Ecas. Your best option for learning more about your case is ordering your GCMS/A-TIP notes.

We are from PEI and we contacted our MP on two occasions to request some help with CIC. The first one was after we received no AOR or OWP after 4 months and the Call Centre told us our application was likely missing/lost. It may be coincidental, but we got OWP less than 2 weeks after contacting MP. The second time was when CIC cancelled our landing interview. The day after we contacted our MP, we got a response from CIC stating they could keep our landing interview date the same. Again, maybe coincidental, but worked out for us on both occasions.

1. Federal MP is helpful when VO's standard processing time has elapsed.
2. MP can't influence any application.
3. MP can get status on your file which you may also get from GCMS notes.

In some cases (also referred to above) people might have received some positive activities relating to the case files just after inquiry by the MP office. But those activities could also be coincidences and had nothing to do with MP inquiry!!

Working with MP or having his/her office involved is very important...Am saying this from first hand experience. I applied for OWP and PR and some where down the line, they kinda lost my documents, the next thing i got was a mail from them telliing me that i have been disqualified and that my app cant be processed and my file closed..

I went to the MPs office and they intervened.....My file was reopened again and and i sent in the additional documents they wanted,

In this journey, anyone you dealing with is very important..MP VERY IMPORTANT

Results will vary. Some MPs are very helpful. Some MPs may want to help, but don't know what to do. Some MPs may not even want to help. One forum member was lucky enough that his MP was the Opposition immigration critic, who was only too happy to criticize the government and fight for his rights. He got results. It is worth trying, in any case. If the MP doesn't or can't help, you haven't lost anything. I would advise going to their riding office in person to explain your case. It will not actually be the MP helping you in most cases - it will be an assistant; some have someone working in their riding office that deals with immigration issues.

1) Just Google "MP office near me"
2) give them a call and book an appointment with immigration specialist
That's it
Good luck
