I am currently working in India as Assistant grade III in District Education Office. My wife is doing PHD from Lethbridge University Canada. I am planning to apply for open work permit. Before applying should I resign from my current job or take leave?? Please rply

No - you don't need to do this before applying. I would very strongly recommend that you keep your job until you know the results of the work permit application. There's no guarantee it will be approved.

If I don't resign and apply for open work permit what are the documents required from my employer?

You must include an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from your employer for leave approval + other employment proofs such as your employment letter, 4-6 months salary slips, Income Tax Returns, bank statements to which your salary is credited, etc

@scylla in CIC website it is there that to apply for open work permit I have to submit appointment and relieving letters of my current and previous jobs..

As scylla has suggested, it is NOT a good idea to resign from your job before you are approved for an SOWP.

You do NOT have to include the relieving letter from your current employment = do not have to resign.

The documents you have mentioned refer to the appointment letter from your current employer + appointment AND relieving letter(s) from your previous employer(s).

In addition to this, you must include the NOC (No Objection Certificate = Leave approval letter from your current employer which does not mean resigning from your job) + other employment documents

Actually, more important than your previous employment records are the UCI Number + documents from your spouse
