Hi!

As mentioned in a last post, I applied last week for common law as a sponsor. I have a job in Canada BUT just found out that I am likely to get laid off at the end of the month.

This means I will have to move as I re-located for this job and will not want to stay. I stated my mailing address as my parents so there is no need for me to change that. However, my residential address will change- although I am not sure yet to what. I will probably stay with my parents for a bit until I find something else.

ANYWAYS, I am looking to work at this point probably outside Canada as my partners visa here is expiring soon and we want to stay together while the PR is in process. SO once I find a new job, and relocate, I assume this is when I contact CIC with a residential address change? OR do I have to do it right away, since I am leaving this address, even though I wont technically have a residential address as I am just kind of "traveling" and being with my parents...

ALSO, with the address change since it probably won't be in Canada, I assume I will have to send a bunch of info proving my intent to move back to Canada? Or do I just do the address change and wait to see if they request this...

THANKS ALL for your help, so nice to have a community to be a part of through this stressful process!

if you will be traveling, and continue to use your parent's address as your permanent address, then you don't need to change anything. once you move to a new place, and you want to start receiving your mail there, THEN you can contact CIC about changes to your address. they aren't going to be checking your current address to make sure you are actually there.

if you move outside of canada after your application has been submitted, and settle somewhere else while the application is in process, then again, you will need to contact cic when that happens. since at that point you are no longer living/working in canada and are doing so somewhere else, CIC *may* ask you to prove your intent to return to canada. if you haven't submitted your application yet, and leave/settle before you do, then you need to put proof in the application of your intent to return and settle in canada.

If you are a PR yourself, and sponsoring someone else, you MUST live in canada during the application process. If you are a canadian citizen, then you can live elsewhere.
