residency requirments for citizenship

Hi guys,

I'm a little bit confused ... which one is correct, one of my friends told me that pr can't spend more then 6 months (180 days) out of the country each year or you should have to reside in canada 2 years out of 5 year period of time ? just want to stay on the safe side

The 2 year out of 5 year requirement is to keep your PR status. That doesn't get you citizenship.

For citizenship, under the current rules, you must live in Canada for 4 out of 6 years to qualify. You must also be in Canada for at least six months out of those 4 years.

Please re-read my first post. There are two different residency requirements. One is for keeping your PR status - the other is for citizenship.

The days you were in Canada before you became a PR don't count towards either PR or citizenship. Only days since you became a PR count.

calculated and do meet pr renewal requirement, but not citizenship. very sad
