I want to ask weather it is compulsory for new immigrants to live 12months in Ontario before becoming eligible for OSAP.

Here is OSAP: https://osap.gov.on.ca/OSAPPortal

On this page, there is a number to call: 1-888-449-4478

Try this number and ask them if there is such a condition.

A good summary of the OHIP residency requirements is provided here:

http://settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?k=ESL_ADULT&faq_id=4001161

Either you, your spouse/common law partner or your parents (if you're still a minor/dependent) must have resided in Ontario for the last 12 months in order for you to qualify.

Read through the information on the page I provided and I think it should answer all of your questions. If your wife is studying full time, then you do not qualify for OHIP. If she is only studying part-time, then you might qualify.

I guess this had has changed now? Read one can apply even if they've not stayed in Ontario for up to 12 months.

You certainly can apply for OSAP as a new immigrant before your 12 month period. I am currently applying for a one year graduate certificate program starting next month and I just landed mid-July

OHIP is for health insurance you can apply when you establish yourself as a resident and have a permanent address in Ontario, it becomes active 3 months after your landing date.

When do you think the OSAP Payment will pull through?

Hi, do let us know whether the OSAP thing worked out for you.

Hey, just wanted to ask if you got the OSAP you mentioned in this comment. And what was the process of applying

Yes got OSAP just fine. Loan+Grant. Thinking about applying again this September for a second post graduate certificate or a mba while working or starting a business.

Hi there,

Just to confirm, you don't need to have lived in Canada for 12 months+?

I am a Canadian citizen, due to start my MBA in September; however, I have never lived in Canada, so I am really concerned I won't be eligible for OSAP.

I'll be moving to Toronto in August.

Thanks

BC4life might be able to better explain.

But i too inquired directly from them. You might be able to get before 12 months, however you still need to provide your SIN number.

Where are you doing your MBA?

Can me and my wife have osap or only one person can have osap? Am asking this because couldnt find any info available on that matter, thanks

Fortunately I have my SIN number (and I've started my OSAP application).

Doing the MBA at Rotman, so it's very expensive. I got a $30k scholarship + some other benefits. I've also paid the $5k deposit, but without OSAP it's unaffordable, so don't want to have to not start the course.

Conscious I'm a bit silly for not double and triple checking the requirements before setting this whole process in motion. I also gave up places at American MBAs with $80k+ scholarships as Rotman seemed like a good choice with OSAP...
