Residency Requirement-Covid19

I had done my soft landing back in October 2017. Post that I have lived outside Canada for 3 years. I was planning to move to Canada in September 2020 so that I could keep a buffer of 30-40 days for the next 2 years. Now given the current Covid-19 situation, I am little apprehensive to move in September this year. I just wanted to know whether anyone has requested and got extension/relaxation to the residency requirements given such a situation. Grateful for your help.

There's been no extension / relaxation announced. The 2 out of 5 year rule still applies.

Thanks for your quick response. Do you think I should mail the CIC seeking an extension? Of course, I want to meet the residency requirements, but I am just apprehensive about the self quarantine measures (which might be relaxed post August 2020) and the job market.

1. Pointless, CIC doesn't give extensions. 2 out of 5 years is pretty generous IMHO.

Extensions to residency requirements isn't something that exists or that IRCC offers.

Basically once you are ready to return to Canada (and assuming your PR card is still valid), you'll simply return and hope you are not reported for failing to meet the residency requirement. If you are reported for failing to meet the residency requirement, then you would request consideration under H&C. If you are not, then you would simply remain in Canada for 2 years straight until you meet the residency requirement and can renew your PR card.

Thanks for your quick responses I agree that 2 years out of 5 is pretty generous for meeting residency obligation. It’s only due to the issues surrounding covid-19 that such questions are arising.
