My dad moved to Canada along with me in April 2012. He and I both applied for Citizenship at the same time in June 2015. While i was lucky to receive my Citizenship Test Call in Nov 2015, My Oath Ceremony Invitation in Feb 2016 and Canadian Passport in March 2016. My dad hasn't been so lucky.

The problem that my dad faced is that he was hired at a very high profile job for an organization in Toronto at a very high pay the moment he landed in Canada. However the job required him to travel a lot, very frequently and such was the nature of his job that since landing in Canada from April 2012 to now, he has practically been away from Canada for 20 days every month due to which it was impossible for him to accumulate the number of days required i.e. 1095 days necessary before applying for Citizenship.

However, the organization my dad works for, hired a very expensive immigration lawyer who has represented many US-Canadian celebrities, international business CEO's and executives to help him out with his Citizenship application arguing that since his job required him to travel very frequently, whatever work he was doing outside Canada was on behalf of the Canadian organization he was working for and was benefiting the Canadian economy, the days he spent outside Canada should be technically and in spirit be counted as days spent in Canada. The lawyer used many past examples of foreign CEO's who came to Canada to work, celebrities who were granted Canadian Citizenship inspite of not spending the days required in Canada.

My dad submitted everything, his tax returns from 2012 to 2016. His mortgage documents, world wide documents. Letters from his employer, signed letters from his MP and even the premier in Ontario, letter to the Minister for Citizenship to look into his special circumstances and to grant him Citizenship based on these circumstances.

The CIC submitted a residency Questionnaire to my dad like 2 months ago and my word they demanded an insane number of documents like his rental lease agreements, each and every Credit Card, Bank Statement, NOA, Tax Return from 2012 to 2016, each and every foreign destination he travelled to from Canada from 2012 to 2016, the names of hotels he stayed in, addresses of hotels he stayed in, a complete itenary list. It took my dad around 40 days to compile everything and to submit everything to the CIC.

My father applied for PR card renewal in Sept 2016 and miraculously got the new PR card in October 2016.

Anyways the purpose of this thread is to inquire from people as to how long did it take them to get their Citizenship test call, Oath ceremony from the time they submitted the Residency Questionnaire back to the CIC. Since my dad is above the age of 55, he will most likely be exempt from the requirements to give the Citizenship test, he will just simply be invited to attend the Citizenship Oath Ceremony.

No one can really tell that how much time it is going to take. Can be days, months. Every case is different. I think they might will call him to attend interview for document verification not for language test though.
I would suggest you to keep on checking your e-cas, email and physical mail for updates and hopefully he will get his citizenship soon. Good luck and best wishes!

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
After C-24, decision-making authority for discretionary citizenship grants has been moved to the Minster, also residence has been defined as physical residence (no longer possible to claim residence while aboard unless the organization he works for is a Canadian government organization not private organization).

The lawyer may have misled him as their past cases were possible before C-24. Now the only possible way after C-24 is to have the influence to let the Minster himself to make discretionary grant.

This discretionary grant of citizenship is to alleviate cases of special and unusual hardship or to reward services of an exceptional value to Canada. Grants under this subsection are only used in very exceptional cases and each case is considered on its own merit.

Hi,
I would really be surprised if he gets it. My husband too worked for a Canadian company abroad between 2008 and 2012, paid taxes and he came home at least 5 months every year. We applied in 2012 as a family.
Well, we all had to withdraw the application in June 2016. They said for him to get anywhere with getting citizenship would take another 3/4yrs and there are no guarantees as it has to go through insane steps.
On my own part, I was short by about 40 days after my stupid IMMIGRATION CONSULTANT made me believe that working for a Canadian company will count towards my husband's day.
True, we did not use high profile lawyer, but I think the system is built in such a way that same rule applies to all.
The rules are clear now. Physical presence means physical presence. We have resigned to the fact that my husband would get his citizenship when he resigns from his job. For now, he would just keep meeting his PR requirements.

Wishing your dad all the best on this journey. It can be frustrating.....But since he seems to have the money and connections, who knows, he might not suffer like us.

My Dad finally got a letter where he has been invited to the Oath Ceremony on May 23, 2018, 2 and a half years after he applied. Apparently he is going to be the 3rd Canadian After Nelson Mandella, Malala Yousaf Zai to be given Canadian Citizenship in this manner

Actually, Mandela and Malala (and 4 others) are not canadian citizens, their honorary citizenship is largely symbolic. They don't bear any duty linked to the citizenship and are not entitled to any of its rights or privileges.

Congrats to your dad ! :)

Thanks for the update. Did he was asked to attend interview for docs verification before oath?
