I just got my permanent resident visa and will be going up at the end of the year. I have a contractual obligation with my job in my home country and will not be able to immigrate permanently until later 2010 when those obligations are over. So my question is, how long do I have to stay for my first entry (to get my permanent resident status) in Canada? I'm searching everywhere for the permanent residency obligations and not finding out, only getting info on the 730 days.

you just need to land and then you can go away. That is my understanding anyway.

you can simply walk into canada and walk out before your visa expires. Then, you'll have 3 years at your disposal so that the PR remains alive.

You will have to wait for 2-4 weeks to get a PR Card

not necessary.. 2 options.. give them a friend's address to get the PR card mailed OR tell them that you are here only for the landing formalities and would getthe card later when permanently coming back to Canada.

In option 2, whenever you go bak next, you can take trvel documents from your local CHC.
