Hi and thanks for reading the thread,

I have a question regarding if I need a work/study permit in my case. Here is the full discription of my situation:

1) I got an UNPAID undergrad internship opportunity from an University (in Toronto), with a duration of 4 month;
2) I applied for a visitor visa and got approved;
3) I tried to apply for a work permit but it requires a post secondary degree, but I am not graduate yet;
4) I am not a citizen of the countries that on the IEC list, which means I do not qualify for an ICE internship visa;

My question is: Could I legally work under my situation? If not, is there anything I could do to make this work?

Many thanks.

Check below links hope that might help. Your employer need to get LMIA

Hi Badar,

Thanks for the information. I looked up on the link you provided, and it seems that i might not need lmia and permit, please let me know if I emphasize it correctly, thanks:

To work in Canada as a researcher for a short term
You do not need a work permit if you will come to Canada as a researcher

  • at a public degree-granting institution or affiliated research institution
  • who will work for 120 or fewer consecutive days
  • who has not worked in Canada under this exemption in the last 12 months
If you are eligible, you may need a temporary resident visa or electronic travel authorization to come to Canada.
If you do not meet these conditions, you need a work permit. Find out if you’re eligible for a work permit.

If you think this can count as Short Term researcher as its in degree granting institution than you are good
