Hi everyone,

I was thinking of working as a research assistant after my graduation from my master's and obtain the 1 year work experience required under this occupation and it seems like this occupation falls under the NOC 4012, but in the NOC employment requirements, it says you have to be enrolled in a university or college program. What does that mean? Eventually, can I count my work under PGWP as a research assistant when I am actually not a student, since it's controversial that CEC does not accept your work under study permit and says you have to be enrolled in a university program if you wanna use the research assistant job experience not on a study permit?!

I would appreciate if someone can help me with this issue.

Thank you!

NOCs are not just based on your job title. They are based on the duties you perform. So find out what your job duties are and select the closest NOC.

My situation is exactly same to yours. I have worked for 1+ years and my work experience is counted.

I worked as a Research Assistant for a year after graduation. I chose NOC 2132 (mechanical engineer), because that's what was closest to my job duties. Now my experience is counted as qualifying experience for CEC; and I have my EE profile created. But since my job is non-LMIA, so I am stuck with lower points and haven't got ITA yet.

Thanks for the reply. I actually haven't graduated yet, so I am thinking about it ahead of time. I am in Neuroscience and I will actually be doing the duties listed under the post-secondary research assistant job, but I don't know which title would be the one related to my work! Could you please help me determine the best title for my future (!) work?

Thanks.

Well, even my job duties match the research assistant duties. But the latter is not very specific. Anybody who is in research field will agree to it.

What you have to find is what kind of positions do people in your field work in generally? If they become neuroscientists, then what sort of companies do they work in under what titles.

OK, Thanks. I'll search for the jobs people have gotten previously with this kind of degrees.

Have you succeeded in applying CEC?
