bhuv, you are right, you would qualify under the graduate stream with 1 year of FULL TIME EQUIVALENT work experience. As I stated above, the type of permit is irrelevant as long as you are working with proper authorization.

See p. 9-10 of the OP 25
Thanks for the quick reply... Appreciated!!! :)

If during your master program, you also served as RA, I guess you would have 2 years full-time experience to apply under temporary worker stream!
So, that means a candidate can claim Masters as a Fulltime 2 years studies as well as 2 years of Work exp. completed at the same time... I doubt because either we can claim fulltime studies or fulltime research work if it is completed in the same period of time...

Any suggestions please!!!

I guess so! Why not? I know for the fact people do the same thing when applying under FSW class. They use the 2 years studying to get the adaptivity points and the 2 years work experience for the work experience points.

No. Pre-graduation student work experience does not count.

Why not? Your statement is true if applying under the Graduate stream. I'd say if applying under the Temporary Foreign Worker stream. Work experience is work experience as long as you hold a valid temporary resident status :
You must have temporary resident status during the period of work experience.

pedi_sarvi,

It is simply the way I interpret the rules outlined in the OP 25, which I have sent you before. See p.25.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op25-eng.pdf

If you decide to try this under the temporary foreign worker stream, good luck and let us know if it flies. Personally, I wouldn't risk forfeiting the $550 fee if I could afford to wait and qualify without ambiguity, but that's me.

jes_ON,

In the OP 25 (p. 24-25), which group exactly applies to the condition that we are discussing?

Here is the exact condition:

A Canadian temporary resident (say for example a graduate student) has worked in Canada for 2 years (skill A) under his/her study permit (not work permit). S/He's been able to work by his/her study permit since the job is an on-campus job. (I don't care if s/he's been studying during that period or not). Does s/he qualifies under the TFW stream?

Sorry if you are expecting the OP to provide "exact" guidance to every possible scenario. Not going to happen. Just read and interpret. My interpretation is that if you are here as a student, pre-graduation work experience cannot be used. It says this in many places.

I can't tell you why or why not. Your argument is with CIC, not me.

Again, if you decide to try it, good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Hello Jes,

I have a question regarding "Schedule 8 Economic Classes-CEC" in section number 7. I have below given experience :-

Worked from Jan - Dec 2009 as a Research assistant for 40 hrs per week.
Worked from Jan - April 2009 as a Teaching assistant for 70 hrs per semester.
Worked from Sept - Dec 2009 as a Teaching assistant for 80 hrs per semester.
Worked in April as a Invigilator for 3 hrs.
Worked in Dec as a Invigilator for 3 hrs.

I will appreciate if you can advise me how to fill this information in "Schedule 8 Economic Classes-CEC" in section number 7?
I am very confused about it......

Any help will be Appreciated!!!!!!

Thanks
Bhuv

Well, you will have to convert semesters to weeks and to an average... so for example, if your semester is 16 weeks, 80 hours per semester would be the equivalent of 5 hours per week... list them separately as you did, include an extra sheet if necessary. Alternatively, if your pay stubbs show that you worked those hours in a shorter time span...

Don't think I would worry about including the "invigilator" experience.

Was there something else that is confusing?

Are the years right? You were working as a full-time RA and part-time TA at the same time?

I also work as a full-time RA and part-time TA (during Jan - April and Sept - Dec every year). I think it is straightforward. In section 7, include RA and TA under separate boxes.

For RA:
From Jan 2009 - Dec 2009 (indicate the dates - e.g 2009/01/01 - 2009/12/31)
Occupation: Research Assistant
NOC: 4122
Employer: ......
Main duties:....
Weekly hours: 40

For TA, you have to divide this into two sections since there are two different periods: The only difference will be the working hours and may be the duties if you were a TA for different courses that required different duties. The NOC is also 4122.

I also don't think you should include invigilator experience. You can include this under TA duties (say that you were responsible for invigilating student final exams as part of your TA responsibilities) and you may include those 3 hours in the TA hours (i.e. 73 for Jan - April 09 and 83 for Sept - Dec 09; then take the average to get the weekly hours).

The letters of experience from your supervisors should corroborate the hours/duties.
All the best,
Essat

pedi_sarvi, which university do you go to?
How did you gain 2 years of full time (37.5hrs/week) work experience as TA or RA?
The university I go to (university of alberta) have restriction that TA/RA can work only up to 12 hrs/ week.
Have you been TA/RA for 4,5 years?

Hi,

I study at the University of Alberta, as well. I guess you are at the CS department which has this restriction. At ECE department your working hours is determined based on your funding!

Is it normal for ECE student to get TAB B research assistantship funding?? or in other words, is it normal for ECE student to work ~30 hrs/week as a research assistant?
