Hi, can anyone help me with this situation? I got an email inviting for the oath ceremony online in 6 days. On August 21. But I have to travel to India on August 20 and coming back on September 12. I just sent an email saying as I have planned travel on the date I would request to postpone the ceremony date. Then I received a reply -

You have been sent a Notice to Appear for the Oath of Citizenship under sections 13.2(1)(b) and 23.1 of the Citizenship Act. Please note the Notice to Appear is not an invitation as there is no discretion on whether or not to attend.
A request to reschedule a Citizenship Ceremony event is only considered under exceptional circumstances, ie death of an immediate family member, hospitalization of an immediate family member, or other situation of emergency/ critical nature etc. Each request must be made in writing and must be accompanied by the supporting documentation ie death certificates, doctor’s notes, departure and return airline tickets or documentation to support the request etc.

If you feel that your circumstance warrants review under this criteria you may submit a request via email to this address. This request should clearly outline why your situation is exceptional and needs to have all supporting documentation included when you submit the request. Once received it will be reviewed and you will be notified whether your request will be accommodated.

Please note, airline tickets submitted alone will not suffice. You must provide your reason to reschedule along with documents to support your reason.

Can anyone help me what I can do to postpone the ceremony as I can’t cancel this travel.
Thanks in advance

You can be a no show and wait for final notice or attend the ceremony and postpone your travel.

Becoming a Canadian citizen is considered a privilege, not a right!

Becoming a Canadian citizen is considered a privilege, not a right!
And OP never suggested otherwise.
Relax, PRs have the right to leave Canada and travel the world, which sometimes leads to logistical issues with the citizenship application, and OP will simply have to wait for a new ceremony date, for which IRCC will either automatically decide on, or ask him for a return proof before they schedule it.
