Do nurses have to get a special credential assessment like doctors do? or can they use WES like I did. Asking for a friend who currently works as a nurse. Also do they have to pass the Canadian nursing exam before they apply or can they do this after they land

yes we nurses will be having the SEC assessment which will determine if we are eligible to take the CRNE (depends on what province you apply)

you can either apply even when your not yet in canada and you can also apply while you are in canada.

you just have to contact the college of nursing in the province that you are applying for the requirements..

Quick update -- the CRNE is being offered for the final time in October (I think); after that all of Canada, with the possible exception of Quebec, is switching to the American NCLEX-RN. B.C. has already decided that they will accept any NCLEX passing score since 1982, and the other provinces are in the process of settling this issue. So, if you've passed the NCLEX, you're halfway there already.

Also, the initial application is being centralized, it is processed in one location for ten provinces and then forwarded to your province for further processing.
