Hi, my wife already got her PPR email (outland) just 2 days before her flight as a visitor. So she requested a virtual landing once she landed, and it's been 2 months since the request. There is no update, no email, nothing. We never thought it would take that long just to complete that simple step; otherwise, we would have cancelled the flight.

Meanwhile, she is in trouble, and she is having some medical issues, probably pregnancy, which I am not able to address, even with money out of the pocket (no health card, ID etc.). I am not sure if she will get her virtual landing before the expiration of her visitor visa.

What would be your best advice in this situation? Apply for a spousal open work permit or do something else.

I never wanted to go back in time and change my decision more than I want now. IRCC never mentioned that a simple request for a virtual landing takes years; otherwise, we would've traveled back to my country to submit a passport.

So sorry to hear about your wife's situation.
It's been known on this forum that virtual landing can take months. (and it's inconsistent from case to case)

You may want to reconsider returning to home if she needs immediate attention for her medical condition.

She can still request to change her landing back to home country (PPR) because she returns back home.
She can apply for OWP (not called spousal open work permit. Find the link in family sponsorship optional open work permit section and follow that instruction) but it's also taking months for approval.
If she wants healthcare coverage, it really depends on province. Some province will give her coverage after AIP (I am sure she is past that stage since she got PPR) and some needs person to have open work permit plus a job. Some will only allow after PR.

Hey. I am so sorry to hear about the issues. Are you guys in Ontario? if yes, you can get OHIP from an AIP letter, as YVR123 mentioned. Let me know. I can help!

No, we are from Saskatchewan.

Your spouse may want to return home because there is an up to 3 month wait period once she gets PR to get access to provincial healthcare. When she returns she should purchase private insurance and look at the fine print about what is covered.
