I received the "Notice to Appear" after I traveled outside of Canada, I'm going back to Canada in 1 month.

However my Notice to Appear is gonna happen before coming back. The question is what should I do?

Should I attend the event and just explain my situation, or should I skip it and wait for the "Final Notice to Appear" after I go back to Canada.

I don't wanna do it while outside of Canada because otherwise I'll have to destroy my PR and wait for a new passport.

I already sent them an email that going back before the Ceremony is impossible and I sent them my travel tickets, and they replied with the following:

I am writing concerning your application under subsection 5(1) of the Citizenship Act.

You have been scheduled to take the Oath of Citizenship on September **, 2023. We received the explanation you provided for being unable to attend this event. We reviewed your explanation and regret to inform you that it was deemed unreasonable because travel for personal reasons does not warrant postponement of the Oath of Citizenship.

As such, you continue to be required to attend the event scheduled for September **, 2023.

Failure to appear for this event will result in being sent a Final Notice to Appear for the Oath of Citizenship after October **, 2023.

Thank you,

You could just skip it and wait for your final notice to appear and make sure you can make that one? Doesn't seem like you have another option unless you can get back to Canada in time.

That's what I was thinking, to just skip it and wait for the final notice to appear. I was just wondering if anyone been through this before.

They also mentioned that the final notice to appear will be sent after the date of which I'm back to Canada, so 99.99% I'll be there for the final notice to appear!

I’m curious. Why didn’t you do it outside Canada? Generally the wait for a new passport is much shorter when applying at a foreign Canadian embassy…
