Thanks Leon,
Your response give me a lot of confidence. I am really indebted to your sound advice to me.
I am carrying all the medical papers of my deceased dad and ailing mom with me and shall show it if need be.
Many thanks once again.....

Dear Leon,
Just one last query. By renouncing my PR, what does it mean? Will they take away my PR card (which will be still valid, or do I have to fill up some form? Can they take away the card ( like they did for my medical card)? What are my rights?Eagerly awaiting your prompt response.

If you renounce your PR then you will no longer have PR status in Canada and will no longer be able to enter Canada using your PR card.

If the immigration officer offers you to renounce your PR on the spot, you should make sure that they give you a visit visa instead so you can continue with your visit. You will not be a PR any more in that case and you will not have health care in Canada, you can not work in Canada etc.

However, if you are just about to visit, you might as well keep your PR for now. If you and your wife decide that the best option is to renounce your PR and have her sponsor you, you can renounce it and she can apply to do that and hopefully it'll be through before too long. You can see the processing time for spousal sponsorship here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp

Dear ryan007,

What happened finally? Did you face any problems at airport? did your PR card renounced or nothing happened
and you entered smoothly without any issues?

Kindly share the latest updates for the benefit of all readers who learn from your case.

regards,

Hi all,
Wanted to update on my last visit to Canada in April this year. I was allowed into Canada without any further questioning once I stated that I had visited my mom who is ailing from cancer back home in India.I think the entries made in the system earlier in December 2012 about the health issue of my mother earlier has helped. Now since I returned to my job and have been visiting my mom and providing the financial help and arranging for caregivers my mom has responded well to the treatment which she is undergoing to prevent the cancer from spreading and the treatment has also reduced the severity. I have now decided to reunite with my family in Canada this October after the doctor gave me the assurance that all is well with my mom and the way she has responded to the medicines is a real miracle. I intent to stay for 730 days and most probably the 1065 days needed to apply for citizenship as suggested.(I have logged in around 280 days before my PR card expires). Renewal under H&C grounds seem to be a long drawn process which may or may not be in my favour, hence would not be pursuing the same. I intent to clear my G licensing and apply for renewal of my cancelled medical card once I land and before my PR card expires.
Leon and other experts please advise on any precautions I need to take or if there are any pitfalls in my plans as of now.

I think you're very wise to wait until you have the 730 day before applying for the PR card renewal.

Small correction - citizenship requires 1095 days (not 1065).

Sounds good to me but give a few extra days, say apply to renew your PR card after 745 days and your citizenship after 1110 days
