Hi everyone,

1) Do you know what causes IRCC to request additional information to determine physical presence? For example like passport scans. I'm just trying to see if there's any information in the operations manuals or from your experience that would allow someone to prove their presence when sending the application the first time, and to avoid getting a request for additional information like this one below.

2) What if someone had 3 passports within the 5 year eligibility period, but only one of them is sufficient to prove physical presence - the most recent passport. This most recent passport was the only valid one during the physical presence period.
Would it make sense to send just the most recent passport (currently valid and all claimed 1095 days fall within the validity period of this passport) and avoid having to scan and translate 2 other passports that the person is not claiming any presence on. They are effectively useless for determining physical presence.

Thanks, and sorry for the lengthy question!

1. Nowadays IRCC is asking everyone to send the copies of passports. It is not just you, everyone gets such a request. So nothing to worry here. You don't need to send any other document. Just copy of all the passports, all the pages and translated if any visa/stamp/etc. is not in english/french.
2. No, it should be all the pages of all the passports (within the eligibility period), even if they don't have any visa or stamps on them.

This is not a special request. Page-by-page passport inspections during the eligibility period were pretty much the norm pre-pandemic, except it was done in person (after completing the citizenship exam, during the in-person interview). What they requested from you is their SOP.

If you want to avoid any more complications or delays, simply do what they asked and submit ALL passports during the eligibility period. What information is relevant or not is up to them to determine.

Ok now that makes sense! Thanks for explaining the pre-pandemic norm. I'm just hearing about these requests quite frequently and didn't understand why they're doing it. But it's all clear now that you've put it in prospective.
