My common law has been approved to sponsor me for me to obtain my pr here in Canada. CIC has sent me a letter saying that my pr application is being processed but they need my sons birth certicate and a medical for him so they can proceed. My son lives with his mother in Germany and I am not planning to bring him here. Why do I need to provide birth certificate and medical when I expressed on my application that I do not have plans to bring him here. Please help.

I am not quite sure why would they ask you to send his medical for your PR application if you are not planning to accompany you.
This might be their concern that you might put sponsorship file for your son.
Call IRCC for you application info and reason why they need his info to process your application if you are not planning to accompany him.
They will explain it to you or else any other member have any input about this here
