Request for Passport

Hi guys,

So the situation as it is, me and my English husband applied back in October, he was planning to come over at the time as well so that we could be together as soon as possible, however problems prevented him from coming and he has only now been able to book a flight to come over at the end of next week.

However, today he has just received an email requesting his passport. Now in the attached file it advises not to give up your job (which he had back in October) or book anything until you have your passport back and visa issued. Obviously its great news it has been issued but why are they advising that? Everyone on this forum said it wouldn't be a problem at all to go over there asap.

Ideally would it be possible to fly over as planned, hand over his passport to somewhere in Canada and have the visa issued while already IN Canada, then simply leave the border and come back for them to recognise it (which is what we was informed as was possible)?

Alternatively, could he fly over as normal, send the passport back to England to the address stated, put the address down as where he previously lived (his parents still live there), then when they get the visa get them to send it across back to Canada? We also run the risk of over-running the 45 day time limit with it crossing the international border and having the whole thing cancelled having to pay the fees again and start it all over again. Definitely something we don't want. Is it possible to send it to them while over there or would they ignore it with it only being stamped going into Canada, thus knowing he is here...

The other way I can see is my least favoured. He has to stay in the UK, cancel his flight, send off his passport, wait the time and then get it back then finally come over. It seems the easiest it is simply because we have been waiting so long. Its been delayed so much already and although its the final hurdle I can't do this much longer being without him.

Please any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks,
SarahL

Okay that is definitely somewhat re-assuring. He has to fill in a form which asks for his current address, would he use the address he is going to stay at in Canada, or the English address? Would they send it internationally to him, or do I need to get it sent to his parents who can then send it back to him. We really miss one another and don't want to be apart any longer, I can't find anywhere on writing on their website where they say its okay to go over before getting the visa issued, can someone please give us a link, a phone number to call, something like that? We don't want to step wrong at all after having come this far.

Basically, do they care if he lives in Canada with me, would it effect the visa being issued?

Hey Sarah I would post your question on the UK thread. Someone who has had a similar experience might be able to help you a little more than I can :)

I mailed mine to London from Canada and received it back just fine. I gave our address in Canada as my current address. Our application was outland, and I've been in Canada with him as a visitor for over a year and half, since before we even started the sponsorship, so I don't think they mind if he would be living with you.

Okay, thanks Poetic. :)

Would it be possible to get it done in Canada itself, ie, is there an alternative Canadian office so we don't need to worry about sending it abroad?

Again, please if someone has a link to something which says it is perfectly fine to be in Canada whilst getting the visa issued, it would be fantastic. Just need something concrete from the horses mouth so to speak. Thanks again guys.

As you have applied Outland you need to send the visa back to the London VO to get your visa.

I received my PPR on the Saturday when I had my flight booked for the Wednesday. I was giving 60 days to get my passport to the London CIC and so I came over and got it sorted once I got here.

I sent my passport directly to London CIC via Fedex and it took 2 days to get there, just checked that it arrived early this morning. I put my postal address on the form as one of my friends addresses in UK and put that address on the envelope as well and she is going to fedex it back to me, as I am currently moving around the country a lot and have no idea where I will be in 10 or so working days it takes to get the visa.

Just remember when he goes through the airport to have all his documentation on him. I came through Calgary airport and had to go to secondary interview as they were aware I was with my Canadian husband and obviously they had concerns about overstaying. I just took with my my receipt for the payment of the initial fees, my sponsorship approval letter and my PPR letter and then they gave me the 6 month dated visa in my passport.

As your husband is from a visa exempt country i.e. UK, he is within his rights to come and 'visit' you in Canada as often as he can, he just can't official 'move' here yet. Remember when you are asked at immigration he is only visiting and not moving, its not a big difference but legally it is. I brought over all my clothes and things, but got upgraded flight tickets which gave me 30kg for both my husband and myself so 60kg in total, and still have some stuff in UK which I'll ship over once I get settled. But he can't just bring over all his stuff right now, he'll have to do that when he lands, put it on the goods to follow list.

Once he gets his passport back, he'll have to go to a border to officially 'land' and then he can officially 'live' here even if everything is no different to before, other than he can work as well has get health insurance.

Hope this helps, any other queries, just let me know.

That's what this forum is all about, passing on our experiences. Its way too scary without other people who have had the same experiences sharing.

;D

I've just explained exactly that to my husband who has never really been around when I've been on these forums as he's been in Canada while I've been in UK.

Great help as usual guys. :D

The getting through customs was especially useful because he was somewhat worried about that, does anyone please have a link to something where it says on the website though? I have tried emailing them just to confirm but obviously had no response as of yet. Just confirmation to be able to show relatives. Thanks in advance. :)

To those who are in the know or those who had similar experience, I need your advise..please.

Canadian Emb. here in Manila, Phils. has asked me to submit my family's passport, and I did, send my passport as well as that of my children last December, 2010. But I was not able to send my husband's passport because he is in another country working..and his employer is keeping his passport and we are not sure if they will release it. In the meantime, I am in distress.

My questions are: 1. Will Canadian Emb. give us a visa? At least for me and for my children.
2. If my husband submits his passport to the Emb. around the first week of August, 2011 (his date of arrival here in the Phils.), will they still accept it? Is there still ample time for visa processing (though I know that they may keep our passport for a max. 90-day period) Our application will lapse in October 7, 2011.

Please, to all helpful souls out there, enlighten me and advise me what to do.
