We received an email indicating that in order to begin with an evaluation we require you to undergo new medical tests (last one expired last month) and deliver original passport (and do new medical) within 30 days to the Embassy.

Does this mean they will issue my spouse her Visa or PR papers?? If so, does anyone know how long? In Peru?

Hi there, usually when the passport is requested it means you are nearing the end of the process. I am not sure why they are requesting a new medical when CIC can extend the medical if your file is near completion. Did the e-mail you received use the words "to begin an evaluation"? Is there a specific thread for the Peru visa office? Usually people that go through that office could provide better information. Blessings.

They won't issue anything if she fails her medical, she needs to pass it first.

CIC can only ask for an extension from the Regional Medical Office, they are not the ones extending the validity. And they can only to that if the expiry of the medicals is the only thing that keeps them from giving the applicant the visa. So, if the file is not yet in processing, they can't ask for an extension.

Seeing that the PAs' medicals expired last month, it means one of 2 things:
1. CIC doesn't think the file will be processed in the next 2 months - CIC can only ask for an extension if less than 15 months passed since the exam was taken (in this case 12 months of validity + 1 month already passed => they don't think they will have grounds for asking for the extension in the next 2 months).
or
2. CIC can't even start processing without valid medical results.

I should be more clear; the previous medical expired in July (not last month). So that is about 15 months time. I am guessing that is why they are asking for new medicals "to begin the evaluation". They also asked for her passport which I was told is a hint they are to issuing a PR. The medicals are done yesterday and sent and passport was delivered today. We dont anticipate any problem with the medicals nor passport. I cant think of any other reason they would ask for passport since they already had a certified translated copy in the initial application. Anyway, I just needed to hear about others' experiences. Thanks

That is quite obvious.
