I was looking at CIC website for the information, but can't find it there.

Who does CIC consider an orphan:
1. a child who has lost both his parents
2. a child who lost his father

This is regarding sponsorship of orphaned nephews and nieces.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I think CIC does not care about the word orphan, it is adapted and adaption can be due to any reason i.e. biological parents are not able to take care of the child due to financial problems.

So the first process is apply for adaption of those children and then applying for immigration. I am no expert here so maybe I am wrong, following link can you give you some insight

Thanks for your taking time to reply to my query, really appreciate that. Actually adoption does not work for Pakistan due to legal incompatabilities between Pakistani and Canadian law regarding adoption.

I am interested in sponsorship for this reason, and not adoption.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be great help.

Thanks once again!

They consider the absolute most basic definition of "Orphan": a child whose parents are both dead.

You cannot sponsor your nephew/niece if their mother is still alive.

Orphan means both of the parents are deceased (not just the father). A child with one parent still alive is not an orphan.
