Hi all,

I have received a request from IRCC to provide copies of my passport pages (current and expired) during the eligibility period. However, the email is very short and simple and does not mention whether I need to provide any translations. IRCC is giving me 30 days to provide the requested docs. I am currently out of Canada for a short holiday back home. My question is: shall I provide the docs. now or wait until the end of 30 days period which is due July 23rd?

I would say provide the information as soon as possible; I don’t see why you would want to or even consider waiting for the very last moment to fulfill their requirement

You should translate any stamps that are not in English or French, and submit ASAP. The sooner the better :)

I agree with @GuyanaGirl . I mean, do you have any strong reasons as to why you don't want to submit it now? Scan all the passport pages using your phone's camera (some phones have this feature in the camera app and you'll have to use third party apps to do it in others) - Scan and send it to them.

Also, you must translate anything that is not in English or French.

Good luck!

Thanks for your input. My concern is that I am currently outside Canada until July 22nd, and any discrepancy in dates could trigger an interview which they could schedule within a week after I submit docs. However, during my eligibility period I have never left Canada, except for a few daily trips to the U.S.

You are allowed to leave the country. I don't see any issue if you're scheduled for an interview... If you don't provide the additional document, they will make decisions without the documents they need.

If I am scheduled for an interview I have to be physically present in Canada.

Further to my concerns mentioned in the previous comments, I am also booked for second COVID vaccine in my home country. As per new federal guidelines I might be exempt from hotel quarantine if I am fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to entering Canada.

I understand your concern , but I don’t think you will run into any issues or raise any red flags by submitting your pages now because you have travelled. You have already met the requirements and submitted your documents; you are also allowed to travel out of country while your papers are being processed. In 2013 when I went through the citizenship process, I applied in December and then travelled twice for vacation shortly after applying- I did my interview right before my exam ( in august 2014 )the new travels and new stamps were of no concern to the officer because I had long qualified for citizenship. She just checked them and asked minor details about each trip ( purchase and location ) and that was that.

Recently they started allowing test to be taken outside. So people can start requesting for interview too to be allowed to be taken outside.

As of late, applicants who were scheduled for interviews have been getting calls from IRCC for interview cancellation. I think they are doing away with the interview session over MS teams and instead asking for all pages of the passport via email.

This is from the recent posts I've seen.

Anyway, its up to you.

Good luck!

Is this official to allow applicants to take the test outside Canada?

There are some reports from applicants whose test invitations have mentioned they can take the test outside Canada. Some applicants have contacted IRCC and then received a response saying they can take the test outside Canada and system changes are underway to accommodate this change.

There has been no official announcement on the IRCC website. I can still see this on the website but looks like the policy has changed. They might update this in the very near future.

You must

  • complete the test within 21 days of the start date in your invitation
  • be in Canada to take the test
If you need to reschedule

  • email the office that sent you the invitation
  • in your email, explain why you need to reschedule

And just to be clear, we don't have to translate the biographical page, right (because there is already English in it?
