Can you rent out an apartment if you have no status in Canada, but work for a US company that affords you the income to live abroad? Can you rent without a SIN? I'm not talking about someone who is working illegally in Canada. I'm referring to a person who has a US job where they can work abroad through the internet.

No status means you are in Canada illegally. I believe what you are referring to is some with visitor status.

You can certainly try to rent a place. Chances are that you will have a much more difficult time finding a place that someone who is in Canada permanetly or in Canada on a work permit. Landlords will prefer these individuals over you. You may have much more luck getting a sub-lease than renting from a landlord directly.

Keep in mind that you are not allowed to live in Canada as a visitor. Behaving as someone who is living in Canada could create problems for you when you enter the country.

Oh okay. Thank you so much for your response! I'm wanting to get a place for my partner and I (they're a Canadian citizen), but it seems improbable that we'll ever get it to work out.

Edited to add: By the way, they can't just get a place because they're a student. I make a better income than them.
