Renting a place in Canada

Could someone who has already rented let me know what is the payment terms for booking a rental place to stay in Canada. Do you have to pay some amount to landlord before you actually enter Canada to reserve your room?

It could be specific to your experience if you have rented a place yourself.

How did you find it , was it by your friends , consultants , web etc ?

Would you like to share your experience if any when dealing with land lord etc

Provinces have different rules. YOU have to be specific and ask the question in accordance to which city you are going to. But before you do, use the search function on this forum to see if anyone else have asked this in the past and what answer they received. No one hear likes to regurgitate the same thing ad nauseum.

Agreed , thanks let me put it again

I am referring to Ontario , but I am willing to learn if someone is from a different province as well , maybe it well help someone since many people are bound to go this time around.

I found reading on some threads that you have to sign a agreement before payment , to be safe , so that means you have to be there to do it.Which also means you will have to manage 4-5 days with someone before actually buying a place to stay.

Is there any other alternate for people who are completely new to the place ?

Apply for housing through your college/university and stay on campus.
