Hi All,
I am a dual citizen and I want to renounce my other citizenship and keep only my Canadian nationality, Any idea on how to do that, and if I need a layer for that?

If your country has an embassy here the best option is to go there and ask what are the administrative steps particularly for your country.

Meanwhile think twice before you renounce your citizenship, because with these declining Canadian economy you never know what Canada will be like after 10-15 years and you might regret of your decision after time.

You're perfectly right. As if its not enough to Canadian battered economy, the global economic forecast for the year 2016 is very scary.

US Federal Election next year will add more anxiety to global economy. Its domino effect, Canadian economy is already too fragile now.

Some country allow dual citizenship, unless your country does not allow you can keep it. Weight your options carefully before taking that step, as its irreversible.

Almost every country has its embassy / consulates, either in Ottawa or Toronto. You can check with Embassy's citizenship affairs officer.

I know some people still regretting for their decision to renounce their citizenship. One of the main reasons is that Canada doesn't have any free labour agreement with any country and therefore every Canadian needs a working visas if they want to work outside Canada.

So basically now they cant work even in their original country without a visa because practically they are just Canadian visitors anywhere in the world. But the visitor is not allowed to work.

So choosing only to be Canadian for me means only limited possibilities.

Where there is nothing harm in keeping your citizenship if your country allow dual citizenship , it always a plus of you and for coming generation of you

I understand where OP is coming from: sometime there are other personal reasons why someone would want to do this.

Practically, I would rather you kept your citizenship. I don't agree with the point that Canada doesn't have freedom of movement regulations as a reason: the US doesn't either, and most countries around the world in fact don't. Nevertheless, as an economist, I agree that Canada's economic situation is precarious so if you have no major personal reasons to do so then keep the other citizenship.
